Chaps to the 'Ship: LCU Wins 1-0 to Advance to Tournament Final

Letienne's PK Helps LCU Upset No. 2 Seed St. Edward's

AUSTIN, Texas (November 12, 2025) — Lubbock Christian University secured a 1-0 victory over St. Edward's University on Wednesday at Lewis-Chen Family Field, securing their spot in the Lone Star Conference Tournament final for the second time in program history.

The decisive goal came early, as the Chaparrals scored in the first half on a penalty kick. The team maintained its lead with a strong defensive performance, highlighted by the goalkeeper's three saves, ensuring a shutout despite St. Edward's 17 shots.

Lubbock Christian holds an 8-7-4 overall record and will play top-seeded and No. 8 Midwestern State in the championship game. St. Edward's end the season at 8-6-4 overall,

Connor Pettigrew recorded three saves, securing a another shutout win. Geoffroy Letienne scored the game-winning goal, converting his single shot on target. Kade McKinzie led the team in shots, taking four attempts and putting one on goal.

The first half commenced with the Chaps establishing an early offensive presence. Manu Nunez and McKinzie tested St. Edward's goalkeeper Kaleo Francis with shots, though Francis managed to keep the early attempts out.

Lubbock Christian capitalized on a key opportunity in the 26th minute when August Militao drew a penalty and Letienne converted, putting them ahead. Despite continued pressure from the Chaparrals, including a notable attempt by Aron DePaula, Francis kept the SEU deficit at a single goal.

The half concluded with the Chaps holding a 1-0 lead, having effectively seized momentum through their attacking efforts and Letienne's decisive penalty kick. LCU did not allow the host Hilltoppers a single shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes of play.

The second half began with the Chaparrals maintaining a disciplined defensive stance, effectively managing multiple attempts by St. Edward's. Pettigrew played a key role, making crucial saves, including a shot from Armando DonJuan in the 84th minute. Despite consistent pressure from St. Edward's, the match remained scoreless in the second half with no change to the overall score.

Lubbock Christian's defense held strong throughout the half, countering St. Edward's offensive efforts. The visitors managed a few shots on goal, notably from McKinzie and Joao Catafesta, but were unable to convert.

With less than a minute to go, SEU earned back-to-back corner kicks, desperately trying for the tying goal. With just 10 second before the game ended, they had probably their best chance, as Armando DonJuann flicked a ball on target, but Pettigrew knocked it away, securing the Chap win.
