KINGSVILLE, Texas (February 22, 2025) – Led by Grace Foster's 19 points and a scorching 60% shooting performance in the first half, Lubbock Christian University secured a dominant 59-43 road win over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday. The Lady Chaps committed a season-low five turnovers en route to their 16th consecutive victory. The win at Steinke P.E. Center keeps LCU tied atop the Lone Star Conference standings with a 20-1 league record.
The Lady Chaps (26-3, 20-1) had two players score in double figures, led by Grace Foster, who had 19 points and two steals. Maci Maddox added 12 points, four assists and three steals and Audrey Robertson added nine points and three steals.
The Lubbock Christian defense held Texas A&M-Kingsville shooters to only 38.6 percent from the field. The Javelinas did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only seven offensive rebounds and scored one second chance point while Lubbock Christian pulled down 23 defensive rebounds.
The Javelinas (16-11, 11-9) did not have any players in double figures in scoring. Janessa Payne and Veyda Lake each finished with eight points.
How It Happened
Lubbock Christian started out the scoring by opening the game on a 10-0 run to take an early lead with 4:25 left in the first quarter. While the defense held TAMUK to 3-of-10 (30%) shooting in the opening frame, the Lady Chaps were 10-of-14 (71.4%) from the field and received eight points from Foster to place LCU with a 25-9 advantage at quarter's end. Lubbock Christian got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters (Tia Johnson, Audrey Spurgin and Kimber Mathews) accounted for eight of its 25 total points.
Robertson posted seven points in the second quarter and LCU, leading as much as 18 points in the second quarter (27-9), maintained a double-figure lead in the quarter. The entered halftime with a 36-24 edge. Lubbock Christian was successful in the paint, scoring eight of its 11 points close to the basket.
Following intermission, LCU continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 41-26 before going on a 10-0 run, punctuated by a basket from MacI Maddox, to expand its lead further to 51-26 with 4:04 to go in the third. Foster (6) and Maddox (5) combined for 11 points in the quarter and LCU's 17-6 scoring advantage in the quarter allowed them to enter the fourth quarter with a 53-30 edge. While LCU struggled offensively (5-of-14 from the field, 35.7%), they held TAMUK to 18.2% (2/11) shooting in the period.
The Lady Chaps closed the game going 1-of-9 from the field in the entire fourth quarter, but TAMUK was only able to produce a 7-0 run in the quarter. LCU was outscored 13-6 in the quarter.
Game Notes
» Audrey Robertson participated in her 150th career game as a member of the Lady Chaps. A rare feat, her 150 games played marks her as only the second Division II player actively with 150 games played. Central Missouri's Allie Clevenger has played in 152 games.
» The Lady Chaps never trailed in the game, marking the ninth occurrence this season in which LCU never trailed in any portion of a game.
» The Lubbock Christian defense forced 13 turnovers, while committing a season-low of five. The points-off-turnovers category was 11-5 in favor of LCU.
» LCU was 12-of-13 (92.3%) from the free-throw line. Foster led LCU, making all four of her attempts.
» The Lady Chaps claimed their eighth consecutive road win and are now 9-1 in road tilts.
» LCU extended their all-time lead to 5-1 all-time against TAMUK, who is coached by former LCU assistant coach Michael Madrid (all meetings have been with Madrid at the helm). The Lady Chaps are now 2-1 all-time against TAMUK inside Steinke P.E. Center.
