ALPINE, Texas (February 9, 2025) – Ryan Blackwell knocked in five runs and Liam Scott earned the win in relief as Lubbock Christian beat Sul Ross State 18-4 to sweep the series against the Lobos.
Â
Scott (1-0) got the first win of his LCU career coming out of the bullpen for Lubbock Christian (4-4, 4-4). The right-hander allowed just one run in an inning and a third while striking out two. He was relieved by Karson Dunn, who pitched three shutout innings and earned his first save in a Chaparral uniform.
Â
Blackwell led the offensive onslaught, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two walks in addition to his five RBIs. Shea Bowen compiled a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run, three walks and an RBI. Kyle Lewis also made an impact out of the nine-hole, going 2-4 with a double and a triple.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lubbock Christian scored all 18 of their runs in the final four innings of the game. They went scoreless and hitless through the first three frames against Lobo starter Jacob Salinas. SRSU had the early lead, scoring a run each in the first, second and third innings.
Â
Bowen broke up the no-hitter in a big way to lead off the fourth, clubbing his second homer of the season. That opened the floodgates for the Chaps, who scored another run in the frame and put two on base for Blackwell, whose three-run homer put LCU on top for good.
Â
Sul Ross got a run back in the fourth, but Lubbock Christian broke the game open in the top of the fifth, sending 13 batters to the plate and scoring nine runs. Several of the runs came from Lobo mistakes, like wild pitches, walks and errors, but Blackwell singled in a pair of runs and Lewis's triple drove in two more.
Â
After Dunn kept the Lobos scoreless in the fifth, LCU added four more runs in the sixth, including one on a homer by Johnny Gomez III and another on a single from Roe Forrest.
Â
Dunn closed out the game with a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh.
