Llaneza’s Strong Start Leads LCU Past TAMIU

Chaps Win 4-1, Take Series

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 16, 2025) – Lubbock Christian completed the series win against Texas A&M International on Sunday, beating Texas A&M International 4-1 at Jorge Haynes Field.

The Chap pitchers led the way in this series finale win, as Jake Llaneza had his best outing of the year and was followed by Karson Dunn, who slammed the door with a three-inning save.

Llaneza earned his first win as a Chap, tossing a season-high six innings on 102 pitches. He scattered three hits and three walks while striking out six batters. He was relieved by Dunn, who earned his second three-inning save of the season. Dunn allowed only a pair of hits and struck out a Dustdevil on an economical 36 pitches.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lubbock Christian took the lead on the very first batter of the game. Shea Bowen was in the leadoff spot for the Chaps and turned on a pitch for his sixth home run of the season. It is the first time an LCU player has led off a game with a home run since April 19, 2024, when Carson Ogilvie did it.

TAMIU matched that run in the bottom of the second with a walk and a pair of singles, but Llaneza stranded the go-ahead run at third with a strikeout.

It wasn't until the fourth that LCU went back in front. Johnny Gomez III led off with a walk and got around to third with two outs, eventually scoring on a passed ball.

The final two Chaparral runs came in the top of the sixth, with Gomez III starting the rally again, this time on a hit by pitch. Adam Garcia walked and Kyle Lewis was hit by a pitch to load the bases. TAMIU nearly got out of the jam, but an error allowed two runs to come across.

Llaneza came out one more time after the two Chap runs and ran into a bit of trouble with a hit by pitch and a single. The right-hander bounced back with a pair of flyouts and a groundout to end the threat.

Dunn came in to start the bottom of the seventh and had two runners on with two out, but a lineout kept the Dustdevils from scoring. He sat TAMIU down in order in the eighth and worked around a leadoff single in the ninth by inducing a double play to end the game.
