LUBBOCK, Texas (March 19, 2025) - Lubbock Christian senior left-hander
Ryan Markwardt was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association South Central Region Pitcher of the Week, the association announced on Wednesday.
The award comes on the heels of his Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week award earlier this week. It is the second time this season Markwardt has earned both the LSC and Regional award.
Markwardt notched his second complete-game shutout of the season over the weekend, beating Texas A&M International 7-0. He allowed just two hits in seven innings of work while striking out five Dustdevil batters. No TAMIU hitter made it past second base, and Marwkwardt did not allow a hit after the third inning, completing the win on just 92 pitches.
The Itasca, Texas native has had a stellar start to his senior season, posting a 4-2 record with a 3.89 ERA in 37.0 innings of work across seven starts. Opponents are hitting just .207 against him, and he has struck out 43 batters, which is the fourth-most in the LSC. His 189 career strikeouts in a Chaparral uniform have him close to cracking the top 10 all-time in LCU history.
Lubbock Christian took three of four from Texas A&M International on the road last weekend, improving to 16-10 on the season and 15-9 in Lone Star Conference play. The Chaparrals will be back at Hays Field this weekend, hosting Texas A&M-Kingsville for four games.
