Moore Earns Win in Relief

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 23, 2025) – Four different Chaparral players recorded three hits to help power Lubbock Christian past Texas A&M-Kingsville 17-5 in seven innings on Sunday at Hays Field.
 
Junior Logan Moore (1-1) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Lubbock Christian as they improved to 20-10 overall and 19-9 in Lone Star Conference play. The right-hander had the best outing of his career, going 3.2 shutout innings while giving up three hits, allowing no walks and striking out three.

Shea Bowen and Brock Tijerina highlighted offense with a pair of extra base hits each. Bowen's were part of a 3-3 day at the plate, and he was joined in the three-hit department by Jacob Gutierrez, Nicklaus Baumbach and Frayner Chavez.

Chavez had an incredible weekend at the plate, batting .692 with four doubles and one home run. He reached base at a .750 clip and slugged 1.231 against the Javelinas. Brevin McCool also hit .692 on the weekend, and with a slightly higher slugging percentage of 1.538. He drew two more walks on Sunday, bringing his on-base percentage for the weekend to .789.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Chaparrals first put runs on the board in the second inning. Chavez drove in the first LCU run and advanced to third on an error, scoring on a balk.

The Chaparrals deficit grew to 5-2 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, taking over the lead in the fourth inning. Adam Garcia and Kade York started the inning with walks before Chavez singled and the Chaps pushed across a run. A McCool groundout tied the game, and LCU took the lead on back-to-back doubles from Baumbach and Tijerina.

Moore kept the Javelinas scoreless through the fifth and sixth innings as LCU ballooned the lead. They put up four in the in the fifth, which included a two-run triple from Bowen and added six more in the sixth when they send 12 batters to the plate and brought the lead to 12 runs.

Liam Scott came on in relief for the seventh and sat the Javelinas down in order, striking out one, to end the game.

GAME NOTES
» This is Lubbock Christian's second series sweep of the season but their first at home. They previously swept Sul Ross State.
» Five Chaparrals had multiple hits in the ballgame.
» Lubbock Christian went 10-for-23 (.435) with runners in scoring position.
» In the four games against TAMUK, Lubbock Christian hit a whopping .444 with a .522 on-base percentage.
» LCU pitchers combined to strike out 19 Javelina batters on the weekend.
