ALPINE, Texas (March 28, 2025) – Despite a 9-1 advantage in extra-base hits, Lubbock Christian University was unable to complete a sweep in its first-ever trip to Alpine. The Lady Chaparrals secured a 6-3 victory in the opener but fell 8-5 in the nightcap, settling for a doubleheader split in a West Division Lone Star Conference series at Lobo Softball Field.
Game 1
LCU capitalized on timely hitting and a strong complete-game effort from pitcher Tori Lamb to secure a 6-3 victory over SRSU in the opening game of Friday's Lone Star Conference doubleheader at Lobo Softball Field. The Lady Chaparrals collected 10 hits and never trailed, improving to 21-14 overall and 12-13 in LSC play.
Kadin Vire led LCU's offense, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a stolen base, and two runs scored, while
Kendra Levesque finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Baylea Myers added two hits and an RBI
HOW IT HAPPENED
LCU struck early with a three-run first inning before Sul Ross State had a chance to settle in. Vire led off with a double and later swiped third, setting the table for Levesque, who cleared the bases with a three-run double to left center, giving the Chaps a 3-0 lead.
Sul Ross State (7-27, 4-21 LSC) responded with two unearned runs in the second, capitalizing on a pair of LCU defensive miscues. A throwing error allowed Ciera Avila to advance, and an infield single from Elizabeth Clemente plated the first run. With the bases loaded, Jen Leanos delivered an RBI single to cut LCU's lead to 3-2.
The Lady Chaps tacked on an insurance run in the fourth when
Cat Prisock bunted for a single, advanced to third after a sacrifice and an error, and then scored on Vire's sacrifice fly. LCU then extended the lead to 6-2 in the sixth, as Vire sparked the offense again with a bunt single and stolen base before scoring on a two-out infield single from Myers. Levesque followed with a single, prompting a defensive miscue that allowed another run to score.
Sul Ross attempted to rally in the sixth, as pinch-runner Jasmine Garcia reached third following a single and an error, but the Lobos were limited to one unearned run on Leanos' two-out bunt single. Lamb (4-5) worked through the final frame unscathed, retiring the side in order to seal the victory. She tossed all seven innings, allowing seven hits and three unearned runs while striking out five.
GAME NOTES
» Vire compiled three base hits in the game for Lubbock Christian, matching a season high and marking her third three-hit game of the season. She also had a pair of stolen bases.
» Lamb struck out five Lobos hitters, as she completed her fifth complete game of the season and 15
th of her LCU career. She also improved her record to 4-5 on the season and 13-9 in her career.
» Lubbock Christian's highest scoring inning was the first, when it pushed three runs across. LCU improved to 15-5 when scoring first and 14-2 when scoring in the first inning.
» The Lady Chaps out-hit the Lobos at a 10-7 clip, improving to 15-1 when out-hitting opponents this season.
» The Lady Chaps drew five walks from Sul Ross State pitching.
» Levesque led the Chaparrals at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. It marked her seventh multi-RBI game and fourth of three-or-more RBI.
Game 2
Sul Ross State avoided a doubleheader sweep in the second game of the evening with an 8-5 victory over the Lady Chaps at Lobo Softball Field. The Lobos capitalized on key defensive miscues and timely hitting to claim the win, improving to 8-27 overall and 5-21 in Lone Star Conference (LSC) play, while the Lady Chaps fell to 21-15 (12-14 LSC).
LCU got a strong performance from
Kristen Boyd, who recorded two extra base hits in the loss. Boyd's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day, and included a double, a triple and an RBI. Myers compiled a standout performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Levesque also chipped in for the Chaparrals, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
Natalee Gray (4-3) started and took the loss in the circle for LCU.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lubbock Christian struck first in the top of the second inning after
Bailey Hughes reached on an error, setting up Boyd's RBI double to right center. However, Sul Ross State answered immediately, taking advantage of an LCU miscue to plate an unearned run and tie the game at 1-1.
The Lady Chaps jumped ahead in the third inning when Myers crushed a two-run homer to left field, giving LCU a 3-1 lead. The Lobos stormed back with a four-run bottom half, capitalizing on a pair of errors and a two-run double from Garcia to seize a 5-3 advantage.
Sul Ross added to its lead in the fourth on Adriana Hernandez's RBI single, but LCU clawed back in the fifth as Myers walked and later scored on Levesque's double, narrowing the gap to 6-4.
After LCU edged closer with Boyd's sixth-inning triple and a groundout RBI from Vire, the Lobos responded with two more runs in the bottom of the frame. A costly error in the outfield allowed Clemente to score, and Samantha Bustos delivered an RBI single to extend the lead to 8-5.
Alyvia Quintana retired the Lady Chaps in order in the seventh, sealing the complete-game victory for Sul Ross State.

» Lubbock Christian's power output was led by Boyd, who had two extra base hits in the ballgame. She was one of three Lady Chaps with multi-hit games, as Myers and Levesque each had two hits.
