AUSTIN, Texas (March 31, 2025) – Senior outfielder Shea Bowen racked up four hits, but Lubbock Christian fell to St. Edward's 10-8 on Monday to drop the series 3-1.
Â
Jake Llaneza (1-2) started and took the loss on the mound for the Chaparrals(21-13, 20-12). Andrew Duran was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 5.2 innings, surrendering three runs, two earned, on just two hits, walking one and striking out four.
The Chaps out-hit the Hilltoppers 9-6 in the loss. It was the second time in the series that they collected more hits than SEU and lost.

HOW IT HAPPENED
LCU got on the board first in the top of the first inning, taking advantage of a pair of Hilltopper errors. Brock Tijerina drove in the first run with a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded, and Johnny Gomez III duplicated him, but LCU left the bases loaded after that.
The Hilltoppers rallied to score the next three runs and take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second. Lubbock Christian briefly tied the game in the top of the third when Adam Garcia golfed a homer down the right field line, but SEU took the lead for good in the bottom of the frame with four runs.
The four-run inning pushed Llaneza from the game for Duran, and he got them out of the third before tossing back-to-back scoreless frames. LCU got a run in the sixth and could've had two, but a run scored by Carson Shields was erased when umpires determined he didn't touch third.
SEU got a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth, but LCU came right back with three in the seventh to pull within a run. The final St. Edward's run came in the bottom of the inning and was also unearned.
LCU got the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth with two outs, but Brevin McCool struck out looking to end the game.
