Myers Walks It Off, Then Powers It On As LCU Sweeps Sul Ross in Sunday Slugfest

Myers Caps Comeback in Game One, LCU Unleashes 16-Run Barrage in Game Two Blowout

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 13, 2025) — Baylea Myers' walk-off single capped a comeback win in the opener, and Lubbock Christian University followed with a 16-run outburst in the nightcap to sweep Sul Ross State Sunday at Maner Park, taking the Lone Star Conference West Division doubleheader 4–3 and 16–1.

Game 1
Baylea Myers delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Lubbock Christian past Sul Ross State 4-3 in the opening game.

Freshman Kendall Ward (5-1) started in the circle and picked up the win for Lubbock Christian (27-18). The right-hander went four shutout innings while giving up three hits, allowing one walk and striking out two.

In the batter's box, the Chaparrals were led by Ashlinn Hamilton, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Myers put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Kristen Boyd also chipped in for Lubbock Christian, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams traded three-run frames early, but it was Myers' timely hit that proved decisive. Kristen Boyd got the seventh-inning rally started with an infield single and advanced to third on a double by Kadin Vire to left-center. Myers then wasted no time, punching the first pitch she saw through the left side to bring Boyd home.

Sul Ross (10-34) struck first with two runs in the third. A pair of errors helped extend the inning, and the Lobos capitalized with a sacrifice fly from Tori Owens and an RBI single by Adriana Hernandez. Hernandez, who went 3-for-4, accounted for all three of her team's RBI either directly or by setting up scoring plays.

LCU (27-18) responded quickly in the bottom half. Boyd doubled to left and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Myers. After a purpose-walk to Kendra Levesque to opt to face Ashlinn Hamilton, she launched a two-run homer to right to give the Lady Chaps a 3-2 lead.

Sul Ross tied it in the fourth after back-to-back hits by Samantha Bustos and Kyndell Garcia set up a run-scoring opportunity. Garcia was caught stealing, but Kaitlynn Frakes reached on an error that allowed Bustos to come home.

Both teams had chances in the middle innings but couldn't convert. LCU stranded two runners in the sixth, while Sul Ross left a pair on in the seventh. Hernandez's third hit of the game extended the top half, but a strikeout by Kendall Ward ended the threat.

Ward was stellar in relief, tossing four scoreless innings with just three hits allowed and two strikeouts. She entered after Reese Farrar's three-inning start and kept the game level until the offense could seal it.

Sul Ross starter Leanza Chambers (2-15) went the distance in a 106-pitch effort but was tagged with the loss.

Both teams finished with nine hits, but LCU made theirs count in the final frame.

Kendra Levesque also contributed for Lubbock Christian, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding a double, a home run, a walk and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
LCU wasted no time seizing control of the contest, sending 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first and scoring 10 runs on 10 hits, aided by two errors and a pair of wild pitches. Kendra Levesque opened the scoring with a solo home run to center field and capped the inning with a ground-rule RBI double, finishing 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBIs

Piper Garcia and Bailey Hughes each added RBI hits during the frame, and Baylea Myers delivered the biggest blow — a three-run homer to center field — extending the lead to double digits. All but one of the runs in the inning were unearned due to Sul Ross miscues.

After a quiet second inning, the Lady Chaps struck again with six more runs in the third. A two-run double from Ashlinn Hamilton and RBI singles by Kawehi Ili and Hughes extended the lead, before Garcia blasted a two-run triple to right-center to make it 15-0. Garcia finished with four RBI on the day, and Myers led all hitters with three hits and three driven in. LCU's lone run in the fifth came courtesy of Hughes, who plated Garcia after her triple.

Sul Ross managed its only run in the fourth when pinch runner Hannah Clark, who had stolen second and advanced to third on a groundout, scored on Jasmine Garcia's RBI single. The Lobos were limited to five hits, two of which came in the first inning, and left seven runners on base. Their best chance to score more came in the third when they put two on with two out, but LCU's Teoni Lamb ended the threat with her fourth strikeout of the outing.

Lamb (7-7) tossed three scoreless innings for the win, while Gray allowed a run in relief before Berkley Browder pitched a scoreless final frame. LCU turned a pair of double plays defensively and did not commit an error, while Sul Ross stranded multiple runners in three separate innings and committed two errors that led to 11 unearned runs.
