Game 1
Lubbock Christian exploded for seven runs in the eighth inning to outlast Eastern New Mexico 17-10 in a wild series opener at Greyhound Softball Field. The Lady Chaps pounded out 23 hits, led by Levesque's 4-for-5 effort that included a home run and four RBI, while 10 different players logged at least one hit. Farrar earned the win in relief, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings to help LCU move to 31-18 overall and 22-17 in LSC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After trailing 1-0 through one, LCU jumped on Greyhound starter Miranda Guillen with a four-run second inning. Paige Garcia's double and RBI singles from
Riley Flores and
Sophia Reyes tied and gave the Lady Chaps the lead.
Bailey Hughes then delivered a two-run double off the bench, and
Kawehi Ili capped the rally with an RBI-double to chase Guillen after just 1.1 innings.
The Lady Chaps added three more in the third, highlighted by Levesque's two-run single, to extend the lead to 7-1. Eastern New Mexico answered in the bottom half as Christina Meneses launched a two-run homer off
Teoni Lamb to cut the lead to 7-3. Meneses struck again in the fifth with another two-run shot, fueling a four-run frame that tied the game 7-7 and knocked Lamb out of the circle.
LCU stranded runners in scoring position in both the fourth and sixth, missing opportunities to reclaim the lead. ENMU nearly pulled ahead in the sixth, but a two-out threat was defused by Farrar, who entered in relief and left two in scoring position.
The breakthrough came in the eighth when LCU sent 13 batters to the plate. Levesque broke the tie with a three-run homer to straightaway center. Back-to-back RBI-singles by Reyes and Flores followed, and Ili drove in another with a single before Levesque tacked on her fourth RBI of the frame with a base hit to right.
LCU's defense turned a pair of double plays in the contest, while the offense logged seven extra-base hits, including six doubles. Despite allowing 16 hits, the Lady Chaps kept the Greyhounds off the board in the final two innings to secure the win in the three-hour, 21-minute slugfest.
