ODESSA, Texas (April 27, 2025) – Lubbock Christian kept UT Permian Basin scoreless in seven of their eight innings on Sunday, but the eight runs the Falcons plated in the second frame ended up being just enough as the Chaps fell 8-7 in the last game of the 2025 regular season.
LCU almost completed the comeback from the early 8-0 hole, scoring three runs in the top of the ninth and loading the bases with two outs, but a strikeout ended the game with UTPB still on top.
Freshman
Bryce Nall started and took the loss on the mound for Lubbock Christian (31-19, 30-18).
Evan Roach was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going six shutout innings while allowing four hits, walking one and striking out six.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chaps left runners in scoring position in the first and second frames before the Falcon outburst in the bottom of the second. Seven of the runs came off Nall, and one off
Andrew Duran, who was the first Chap reliever used.
LCU was still scoreless until the top of the sixth when they finally broke through.
Kyle Lewis hit a two-out double, and a pinch-hit single from
Roe Forrest drove in the run. They cut into the deficit again in the seventh, when UTPB starter Trevor Barth was finally removed from the game. A balk scored one run, and Lewis drove in two more to make the score 8-4.
The eighth was another scoreless frame for Lubbock Christian, setting up their last-ditch comeback effort in the ninth. All three runs came with two outs.
Johnny Gomez III drove in the first run, and another came across when
Brock Tijerina reached on an error. Another run came in on a wild pitch and
Kade York walked to re-load the bases, but a strikeout of
Shea Bowen cut down LCU's comeback one run short.
