LUBBOCK, Texas (April 3, 2025) – In the opening leg of a home-and-home Lone Star Conference West Division series, Lubbock Christian University traded blows with No. 7 Angelo State Thursday at Maner Park, falling 3-2 in a tightly contested opener before bouncing back with a 5-1 upset win in Game 2. Originally scheduled for Friday but moved up due to forecasted weather, the split sets the stage for Sunday's series finale in San Angelo.
Game 1
A seventh-inning rally by No. 7 Angelo State spoiled a hard-fought effort by LCU, as the Chaparrals dropped a narrow 3-2 decision in the opening game Thursday's doubleheader. The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Lady Chaps (23-16, 9-13 LSC).
Senior
Teoni Lamb (5-6) got the ball to start for Lubbock Christian and took the loss. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on four hits, allowing two walks and striking out five. Cheyenne Floyd (16-5) earned the win for Angelo State (31-8, 18-4 LSC), also going the distance while limiting LCU to three hits.
Vire led the Chaps at the plate with a 2-for-3 outing, while Myers recorded LCU's lone extra-base hit and RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Angelo State opened the scoring in the second inning when Ashlyn McMillan stole home following a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch, giving the Rambelles a 1-0 lead without the benefit of an RBI. From there, both starting pitchers—ASU's Cheyenne Floyd and LCU's
Teoni Lamb—settled into a rhythm, combining to allow just three total hits through the first five innings.
LCU broke through in the sixth with a two-run frame.
Kadin Vire sparked the rally with her second single of the day, then advanced on a passed ball. After a walk to
Riley Flores,
Baylea Myers ripped an RBI double to left to score Vire and put the tying run at third.
Kendra Levesque followed with a groundout to first, bringing Flores across for a 2-1 LCU lead.
The lead was short-lived. In the top of the seventh, McMillan walked and moved into scoring position on a single by Alyssa Gunther. After a sacrifice bunt, Zoey De Baca dropped a bunt single in front of the plate, and a throwing error allowed both McMillan and Gunther to score, putting Angelo State back in front 3-2.
LCU had one final chance in the home half of the seventh.
Ashlinn Hamilton drew a leadoff walk and was replaced by pinch-runner
Cat Prisock, who advanced to second on a wild pitch. But Floyd regrouped to strike out the next two batters and ended the game with her eighth strikeout, stranding the tying run in scoring position.

Reese Farrar in a 5–1 victory over No. 7 Angelo State.
Sophomore

HOW IT HAPPENED
LCU (24-16, 16-14 LSC) was hitless through 4.1 innings and broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth when
Kawehi Ili was hit by a pitch and
Ashlinn Hamilton followed with a go-ahead two-run homer to left giving the Lady Chaps a 2–1 lead. That blast came moments after the Rambelles (31-9, 22-8 LSC) had taken a 1–0 lead in the top half of the inning, scoring on a fielder's choice by Lauren De La Cruz after three straight singles opened the frame.
Farrar (2-1) entered in relief after Angelo State's fifth-inning surge, stranding two runners and retiring nine of the final 10 batters she faced to secure the win. She struck out two in three shutout innings, allowing just one hit and no walks.
LCU added insurance in the sixth, stringing together four hits in a three-run outburst. Leadoff singles by
Kadin Vire and
Riley Flores set the table, and after a
Baylea Myers liner was snagged by the pitcher,
Kendra Levesque singled to left to load the bases.
Kristen Boyd followed with a two-run single to left, and
Piper Garcia later added an RBI single up the middle to make it 5–1.
Angelo State threatened early but left seven runners on base across the first five innings and hit into a key double play in the third. The Rambelles put two on with no outs in the second and three straight singles in the fifth but came away with just one run in both innings combined.
LCU managed just six hits but made them count. Hamilton reached base twice and drove in two, while Boyd added a pair of RBIs. The win went to Farrar in relief of
Natalee Gray, who allowed one run on seven hits in four innings.
