SAN ANGELO, Texas (April 6, 2025) – No. 7 Angelo State held a 6-0 advantage in hits with runners in scoring position, as Lubbock Christian University dropped both games of a Lone Star Conference West Division doubleheader, 7-3 and 4-1, Sunday at Mayer Field. The twin bill concluded a four-game, home-and-home weekend series between the two programs.
Game 1
Their power numbers at the plate were not lacking, but Lubbock Christian's three home runs on the day were not enough to top a six-run third inning by the Rambelles, as the Lady Chaparrals fell 7-3 in the opening game of the doubleheader.
Emily Dix (7-5) started and took the loss in the circle for Lubbock Christian (24-17, 15-16). At the plate, the Lady Chaps were paced by
Piper Garcia, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a home run, a walk and an RBI.
Kendra Levesque compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
Ashlinn Hamilton also helped out for Lubbock Christian, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a home run and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Chaps opened the scoring in the top of the third as
Piper Garcia launched a solo home run to left field, but the early 1-0 lead was quickly erased by a surge from the No. 7-ranked Rambelles (32-9, 23-8). Angelo State capitalized on a leadoff walk and a sacrifice bunt in the bottom half before reeling off five straight run-producing plays. After an RBI double by Lacy Applin tied the game, Tatum Trotter followed with a triple to put ASU ahead. A sacrifice fly from Alyssa McMillan pushed the lead to 3-1 before the inning snowballed with a hit-by-pitch, a walk, and a wild pitch setting the table for Zoey De Baca's two-run double and a Carter Smith RBI single to cap a six-run frame.
LCU responded with power of its own in the fourth, as
Kendra Levesque and
Ashlinn Hamilton hit solo home runs to cut the deficit to 6-3. Hamilton, who relieved
Emily Dix in the third, kept ASU off the board in the fourth but allowed a solo shot to Angelina Gunther in the fifth to push the Rambelle lead back to four.
Opportunities to rally late were limited for the Lady Chaps, who were held hitless over the final three innings by ASU ace Cheyenne Floyd (18-5). Floyd struck out six in a complete-game effort, retiring 11 of the final 12 batters she faced. LCU's offense was limited to just three hits, all of which left the yard.
Dix took the loss, allowing five runs over 2.2 innings. Hamilton allowed two runs over 3.1 innings of relief. The Lady Chaps did not commit an error defensively, but ASU's timely hitting and command of the strike zone—scoring seven runs on just six hits and three walks—proved to be the difference

HOW IT HAPPENED
LCU struck first in the opening frame when

Kendra Levesque's RBI-double to left-center, giving the Lady Chaps a 1-0 edge. That lead didn't hold long. Angelo State answered in the second with a leadoff single from Aaliyah McMillan, who promptly stole second before Addison Gunther launched a two-run homer to center field, flipping the lead to 2-1 in the Rambelles' favor.
In the third, ASU added on with another extra-base hit. After a one-out walk and stolen base by Emilee Plunkett, Lauryn Applin laced an RBI double to the gap in left-center, pushing the score to 3-1. LCU threatened in the top half of the frame with back-to-back singles from
Baylea Myers and Flores, but the potential rally was cut short on a pair of fielder's choices that left two runners stranded.
Gunther wasn't done making an impact. In the fourth, she lined out hard to second, but Zoey De Baca followed by curling a solo home run down the left field line, giving ASU a 4-1 lead. From there, Rambelle starter Abigail Hatthorn took control, scattering six hits across a complete-game effort while walking none and striking out one. LCU put a runner in scoring position in the fourth after a
Kristen Boyd double, but a popout and strikeout ended the frame with no damage.
LCU had another chance in the seventh after
Kawehi Ili singled up the middle with one out, but a pinch-hit popout and a foul out ended the game. The Lady Chaps out-hit ASU 6-5 but left five on base and managed just one hit after the fourth inning. Starter
