SAN ANGELO, Texas (May 15, 2025) – Lubbock Christian saw its 2025 season come to an end on Thursday, falling 10-7 to No. 21 St. Edward's and 11-3 to No. 1 Angelo State at Foster Field in the NCAA South Central Regional.
Â
The Chaps finish the season 34-23 overall. They finished fourth in the Lone Star Conference standings with a 30-18 record and reached the NCAA Tournament for a third consecutive season and sixth time in program history.
Â
GAME ONE
The Hilltoppers took control early, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first inning after Kobe Jaramillo pitched a scoreless top of the inning. The big swing in the frame was a bases-clearing double from Connor Cox.
Â
Lubbock Christian went scoreless again in the second and third frames, and SEU added their final run of the game in the bottom of the third.
Andrew Duran had taken over to start the frame, and kept SEU off the board for the final five innings.
Â
Duran was excellent in his final appearance in an LCU uniform, pitching six innings on 97 pitches with just one run allowed on four hits and seven strikeouts.
Â
The Chaps broke onto the scoreboard in the top of the fifth when
Aidan Finnegan led off with a walk, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a
Frayner Chavez double. LCU scored one more run in the inning.
Â
Kade York drove in another Chap run in the sixth, and
Brevin McCool led off the seventh with a homer down the left field line. The home run was the 31
st of the season for the New Mexico native, tying the Lubbock Christian single-season record, set by Barry Wilkins in 1987.
Â
LCU added another run in the eighth on a single from
Kyle Lewis and had runners at first and third with two outs for McCool, but SEU reliever George Hettrick got out of the threat with a pickoff.
Â
The final two Chaparral runs came in the top of the ninth, when
Shea Bowen homered to straightaway center to score himself and
Nicklaus Baumbach.
Â
GAME TWO
Angelo State was able to build an early lead as well, scoring three in the first and five in the second against the Chaps, sending LCU to their bullpen.
Alec Stanfield was finally able to settle things down, pitching a scoreless third and fourth against the Rams.
Â
The Lubbock Christian offense came alive in the fourth inning, striking for a pair of runs on a double from
Johnny Gomez III. They added a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Baumbach, but that was all they could muster.
Â
ASU answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth, forcing LCU to call on
Lex Garcia out of the bullpen. Garcia allowed just one unearned run as he closed out the game with the final four innings pitched, scattering three hits and two walks on 57 pitches.
