Lubbock Christian Earns No. 4 Seed, Faces Queens College in NCAA Nationals Debut

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. (May 15, 2025) — History continues for Lubbock Christian University men's tennis, as the Chaparrals were announced as the No. 4-seed in the NCAA Division II National Championships final site bracket. LCU will face No. 13-seed Queens College (N.Y.) in the First Round on Tuesday, May 20 at 7 a.m. CT at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs.

The Chaparrals (23-2) are making their first-ever appearance at the NCAA Championship final site after claiming their first South Central Region victory with a 4-1 win over No.46 UT Permian Basin on May 9. The postseason win marked the first in program history for LCU, which is competing in only its third year as an NCAA Division II program.

LCU enters the national bracket as one of the top seeds following a season that included a Lone Star Conference tournament title, a 19-match win streak, and a No. 5 national ranking in the most recent ITA coaches' poll. The Chaps are led by LSC Player of the Year Kelly Giese, currently ranked No. 9 in the nation in singles. Giese secured the clinching point against UTPB and owns a 23-8 overall record, including a 7-3 mark against ranked individual opponents.

Also bolstering LCU's lineup is No. 13-ranked Pablo Segura, the LSC Championships MVP, who rides a nine-match win streak and holds a 29-5 singles record (leads LCU in singles wins). The Chaps boast unmatched depth with four other players — Mattia Ghedin, Andres De Los Rios, Marco Seccia, and Blas Ruiz Romero — all with double-digit singles wins this spring.

LCU's opponent, Queens College (18-4), enters the national stage following a 4-1 victory over Adelphi in the NCAA East Region final. The Knights, ranked No. 33 nationally, are making their second consecutive trip to the NCAA final site under head coach Somadi Druker. This is the Knights 23rd consecutive season with a NCAA postseason appearance and this season has included winning their 11th East Coast Conference title. Queens earned the top seed in the East Region and has won 11 straight matches, including an undefeated 9-0 record in home indoor matches this season.

Queens is paced by junior Viktor Ek Johansson and standout freshman Samuel Linck, who each clinched singles victories in the regional final. Lucas Foix Sotos, a 2024 All-East Coast Conference selection, anchors the Knights at the top singles position (14-4 at No.1-singles) and is 2-0 against nationally ranked opponents.

LCU and Queens have never met. The Knights are 11-22 all-time and the Chaps are 1-2 all-time in NCAA postseason play. The winner between LCU and Queens will advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals on Wednesday, May 21 at 2 p.m. CT to face either No. 5 Grand Valley State or No. 12 Columbus State. The semifinals are scheduled for May 23 at 8 a.m. CT, with the national championship set for May 24 at 12 p.m. CT.
