LUBBOCK, Texas (September 11, 2025) — Northeastern State University edged Lubbock Christian University 1-0 on Thursday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex. The lone goal of the match came in the second half, securing the victory for Northeastern State. Despite the Chaparrals' 16 shots, Northeastern's goalkeeper recorded six saves to maintain the shutout.
The Chaps fell to 1-2-0 on the season following the 0-1 loss. Northeastern State adjusted to 1-1-1 overall after the win.
The first half was marked by a series of close chances and defensive stands.
Connor Pettigrew made crucial saves for the Chaparrals, denying shots from Northeastern's Edson Marchan in the 4th minute and Martin Martinez in the 7th and 24th minutes.
The Chaparrals' attack was persistent, with
Manu Nunez testing Northeastern's goalkeeper Cameron McColloch three times, but the first half ended in a scoreless draw as both teams' defenses held firm.
The second half started with
Francisco Horta taking an early shot just four seconds in, but it was saved by McColloch. Despite a dynamic effort, including a near-miss shot by
Geoffroy Letienne at the 65th minute and another by
Aron DePaula at the 79th minute, the Chaps were unable to find the back of the net.
Northeastern State capitalized on one Lubbock Christian mistake, taking the lead with a 55th-minute goal by Carter Adams, securing a 1-0 victory despite multiple fouls and a late yellow card on
Andrea Monticelli.
Pettigrew recorded four saves while facing eight shots on goal. DePaula led the team in shots on goal with two out of three total shots. Nunez also added three shots, with two on goal, matching DePaula's performance. Horta contributed with three shots, including one on goal.

- The Chaparrals out-shot Northeastern State 16-8 in the loss. The last time they outshot a team in a loss was Oct. 16 against Sul Ross.
- LCU limited NSU to just one corner kick. The last time they held an opponent to just one corner kick was Nov. 1, 2023, against Texas A&M International.
