ALAMOSA, Colo. (Sept. 11, 2025) — Lubbock Christian University edged Adams State University 1-0 on Thursday at the ASU Soccer & Lacrosse Field.
The decisive moment came fairly early in the first half when Lubbock Christian capitalized on one of their seven shots, securing the only goal of the match. The defense held strong with a shutout, aided by two crucial saves from goalkeeper
Emma Wright in the second half. Adams State pressed with eight shots but could not find the back of the net, while also contending with a red card that reduced them to ten players.
Lubbock Christian improved to 2-1-0 overall following the victory. Adams State fell to 1-1-1 on the season.
The first half began with a strategic push from Lubbock Christian, culminating in a decisive goal by
Ella Spiller in the 13th minute that gave the visitors an early lead. Despite several fouls and an offside call against the Chaparrals, they maintained their advantage through the half.
Journey Curs nearly doubled the lead with a shot on goal in the 17th minute, but it was saved by Adams State's goalkeeper, Ashlyn Bartley and the half concluded with the Chaps leading 1-0.
The second half commenced with Lubbock Christian maintaining their defensive stance, as evidenced by Wright's crucial save in the 69th minute. Offensive efforts were led by
Lexi De La Cruz, who delivered two shots, one of which was saved in the 71st minute.
Wright made another save in the 87th minute, but the key moment came in the 88th minute when ASU earned a penalty kick. Keira Roberson took the opportunity for the Grizzlies, but her attempt missed, sealing the road win for LCU.
GAME NOTES
- The shutout for the Lady Chaps was their first since Nov. 1 of last year, when they kept UT Tyler scoreless. It was also the first solo shutout of goalkeeper
Emma Wright's collegiate career.
- Wright is now 4-4-1 in goal in an LCU uniform.
- Spiller now has three goals on the season already (all this week) after scoring five in 17 games last year.
- A whopping six LCU players were on the field for all 90 minutes, including Spiller,
Lauren Rotan,
Bonnie Miller,
Emma Best, and
Casey Storer.
- Four different Lady Chaps tallied shots on goal in the win, including a team-leading two from
Bonnie Miller.
