Chaps Fight to Scoreless Draw

Pettigrew Notches Second Shutout of the Season

HAYS, Kan. (September 20, 2025) — Lubbock Christian University and Newman University played to a scoreless draw on Saturday at the FHSU Soccer Stadium.

It was an evenly matched game, as both teams registered 12 shots, with the Chaparrals recording five shots on goal compared to Newman's three. The match featured a strong defensive performance by both goalkeepers, as Connor Pettigrew made three saves while Newman's goalie, Francisco Pinochet, recorded five.

Lubbock Christian holds a record of 1-4-1 following the match. Newman stands at 2-1-2 on the season after the draw.

The first half commenced with a defensive focus, as the Chaparrals' Connor Pettigrew took his place in goal. Despite multiple fouls from both teams, the Chaps worked to find scoring opportunities, with Augusto Militao and Kade McKinzie each registering shots that tested Pinochet, particularly McKinzie's bottom center attempt at 37:57 mark.

Pedro Lucas also posed a threat with two shots, one saved and another narrowly missing, keeping the pressure on but leaving the score tied at 0-0 at the end of the half.

The second half began with both teams looking to break the deadlock, but it was the Chaparrals who came close in the 55th minute when Lucas's shot was saved by Pinochet.

Despite Pettigrew making crucial saves against Newman's attempts, including a notable one by Eduardo Dos Santos in the 61st minute, the Chaparrals faced a series of fouls that disrupted their momentum.

Pettigrew recorded a shutout with three saves in 90 minutes. Lucas led the team in shots with three, two of which were on goal. Caio Wasch and Francisco Horta each contributed defensively, while Horta also added one shot.

GAME NOTES:
- Four different Chaps combined for five shots on goal, led by two from Pedro Lucas
- Pettigrew notched his second shutout of the season and the ninth of his Lubbock Christian career
- The Chaparrals held Newman without a shot on goal for the entirety of the first half
