Chaps Get First Win of 2025

Lucas Scores Twice in Dominant LCU Performance

ALAMOSA, Colo. — Lubbock Christian shut out Adams State with a decisive 5-0 victory on Saturday at the ASU Soccer & Lacrosse Field, with the Chaps' offense registering 28 shots and securing a clean sheet.

The Chaps improved to 1-1-0 overall after a decisive win. Adams State fell to 0-1-0 on the season.

The first half began with Lubbock Christian establishing control early, as Pedro Lucas opened the scoring with a goal in the 19th minute, assisted by Manu Nunez

Building on the momentum, Francisco Horta doubled the lead with a goal in the 21st minute, assisted by Lucas. The Chaparrals continued their dominant performance, with Kade McKinzie scoring in the 24th minute, assisted by Horta, securing a 3-0 advantage going into halftime.

The second half began with Lubbock Christian quickly extending their lead, as Lucas scored in the 46th minute with an assist from Kibukila Mbula

Despite pressure from Adams State, the Chaparrals' defense held firm, while Ty Gibbs further cemented the visitors' dominance by scoring in the 82nd minute with help from Aron DePaula. Throughout the half, the Chaps maintained offensive pressure, consistently challenging the home team's defense, and sealing a comprehensive 5-0 victory.

GAME NOTES:
- Lucas recorded the first five-point game by a Chap since Sept. 14, 2023, when Saimon Gjeci had five points against South Dakota Mines
- That game against South Dakota Mines was also the last time the Chaparrals scored five goals in a single contest
- Lubbock Christian held the Grizzlies without a shot on goal. The last time the Chaps held an opponent without a shot on goal for an entire match was Nov. 3, 2021, against Dallas Baptist
- Horta found the back of the net in the 21st minute, scoring the third goal of his LCU career and 10th goal of his collegiate career overall. Horta also assisted on a goal
- Just three minutes after Horta's goal, McKinzie scored. It was his first goal in an LCU uniform and just his second collegiate goal overall
- Mbula's assist on one Lucas goal was the first point of his college career
- The goal by Gibbs came 364 days after he suffered an injury that kept him out for the majority of the 2024 season, and against the same team he got injured
