Lady Chaps Open Season Against Nation’s No. 2 in College Station

LCU Gains Early-Season Experience in Exhibition Dual at Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (January 16, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University opened the 2025–26 season Friday with its first exhibition dual, falling 7–0 to No. 2 Texas A&M at Mitchell Tennis Center in a match that counted as a regular-season contest for the host Aggies.

Texas A&M seized the early advantage by sweeping the doubles point, then completed the shutout with six singles victories, as LCU gained valuable experience against one of the nation's top programs. Texas A&M secured the doubles point quickly, beginning at No. 3 doubles where No. 76 Violeta Martinez and Anna Perelman blanked Kristel Jativa and Ana Sofía Valero Treviño, 6–0. Moments later at No. 1 doubles, Mia Kupres and Lucciana Perez followed with a 6–0 victory over AnaMaria Zoric and Andrea De Bernardo to clinch the point. The No. 2 doubles match between Daria Smetannikov and Lexington Reed of Texas A&M and Axelle Jacquemin and Oshini Herath of LCU was left unfinished at 4–3.

In singles play, Perez struck first at the top of the lineup, earning a 6–0, 6–1 win over Zoric at No. 1 singles to extend the Aggies' lead. Texas A&M added another point at No. 6, where Tilde Stromquist defeated Valero Trevño, 6–1, 6–0. Martinez followed at No. 3 singles with a 6–1, 6–1 decision over Jacquemin, pushing the Aggies within one point of clinching the dual.

The match was decided at No. 4 singles as No. 83 Daria Smetannikov posted a 6–0, 6–1 victory over Herath to secure the dual for Texas A&M. The Aggies completed the sweep with remaining wins at No. 5 singles, where Anna Perelman topped freshman Kristel Jativa, 6–2, 6–0, and at No. 2 singles, where Lexington Reed closed the match with a 6–1, 6–2 win over De Bernardo.

Perez led Texas A&M by contributing to both the doubles and singles points at the top of the lineup, while Martinez also posted a pair of dominant victories in doubles and singles. For Lubbock Christian, the exhibition provided a first look at several underclassmen competing against elite Division I opposition, including freshmen Jativa and Valero Treviño, as the Lady Chaps tested depth across the lineup in the season opener.

Lubbock Christian will continue its exhibition slate on Jan. 31, traveling to Lake Charles, La., for a 10 a.m. dual against McNeese State at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
