Saturday Shutout Puts Chaps Back in Win Column

Militao's First Half Goal Beats Patriots

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 3, 2026) — Lubbock Christian returned to the win column, beating UT Tyler 1-0 on Saturday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex. The Chaps scored in the first half and made it stand with a four-save shutout.

The Chaparrals are 5-5-1 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play. The Patriots are 2-4-4 overall and 0-3-1 in conference play.

Freshman forward Oliver Robinson tested Niclas Becker inside the first minute, while Milo Paci answered the Patriots' early look with a save on Caden Naizer. The Chaps broke through with the eventual game-winner in the 15th minute, when Junior Lopez played the ball to Augusto Militao, who fired from 30 yards out, beating the UTT keeper on the right side.

The Chaps kept pressing after the goal, with Militao missing left in the 20th minute, Robinson forcing another Becker save in the 23rd and the home side earning corner kicks at 22:41 and 26:04. Paci preserved the advantage with saves on Dennis Nyame in the 28th minute and Landon Neely in the final minute as LCU took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Lubbock Christian kept the Patriots off the scoreboard over the final 45 minutes and closed out a 1-0 win after a scoreless second half. Robinson sent a shot over the frame and the Chaps earned a corner in the opening minutes, while UTT's Yanis Lasri hit the top woodwork at 52:19.

With the score still 1-0, the Chaps put together their busiest attacking stretch from 61:14 to 69:09, getting shots from Robinson, Alex Lachevre and Joao Catafesta, two corner kicks, and a saved attempt from Lachevre. The half tightened late with fouls and cards on both sides, and Paci made a save on Henrique Caputo in the 85th minute.

It seemed as if the Patriots would have a prime chance to tie the game with just over two minutes left in the match when a handball in the box was called against the Chaps, but the ruling was overturned upon video assisted review and LCU closed out the shutout win.

GAME NOTES:
- Junior Lopez recorded his first point in a Chaparral uniform when he assisted the Militao goal
- The Patriots had a slight edge in shots in the match with 12 compared to the Chaps' 11, improving the Chaps to 3-2-2 this season in matches where an opponent has more shots
- This is the Chaps' fourth shutout of the season and lowered their goals against average for the season to 1.27
- Augusto Militao is now tied for the team lead in both points and goals with eight and three, respectively. Lachevre and Joao Catafesta have both also reached those marks already this year
- This was the first matchup between the Chaparrals and Patriots to end in a result since 2022 in a match the Chaps also won 2-0. The Chaps are now 6-0-3 all-time against the Patriots
