LUBBOCK, Texas (November 5, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University will host the 2026 Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, with the men running at 9 a.m. and the women at 9:45 a.m.
Â
This will be the first time ever that the, LCU Cross Country Course has hosted the conference championship meet since the Chaps and Lady Chaps became members of the league in 2019. The course will also host the NCAA South Central Regional later this month.
Â
Lubbock Christian is in a new era of cross country this season, as first-year head coach
Nicholas Rivera took over the program in June. Most recently, he was at Artesia High School for four years, where he captured seven district titles. His own collegiate career was at Texas Tech, where he was a two-time Big 12 Champion in the 800-meter.
Â
LCU's men are looking to improve upon last year's sixth place finish, which was their highest since 2019. The Chaps are led by seniors
Alfons Rawall and
Matthew Gordon, who were both picked as LSC Preseason Runners to Watch.
Â
Rawall was LCU's top finisher at three of the four regular season meets, including the TTU Open, which was also run at the LCU Cross Country Course. The Swede finished the regular season strong, posting a personal best 8K time of 25:11.6 at the DBU Old Glory Gallop.
Â
Gordon actually out-paced Rawall at the final regular season meet and also posted a PR, crossing the finish line in 25:01.0. LCU's top five at every meet in the regular season has been rounded out by junior
Jackson Martinez, senior Gavin Morrisson, and sophomore
Micah Zapata.
Â
On the women's side, LCU lacks a strong upper classmen presence and has been led by a pair of freshmen throughout the season. In the final three meets of the regular season, it was
Braylee Cothrin or
Cayleigh Madrid as LCU's top finisher, and the other as the second-fastest Lady Chap. At the TTU Open, they finished almost back-to-back, posting times just over 24 minutes.
Â
In those same three meets, the top five have been rounded out by a trio of sophomores, including
Makaylee Morillon,
Reese Pena and
Lily Rodriguez. Morillon and Pena are both Division I transfers, meaning Rodriguez is the only Lady Chap consistently in the top five who is a returner to Lubbock Christian this season.
Â
Live results will be available for both meets
here, and the meet will be live-streamed on FloCollege.
