Chaparrals Make History at Indoor Nationals with First-Ever Win

LCU Tops No. 17 Indianapolis to Advance to Fifth-Place Match at NCAA Division II Indoor Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (February 14, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University secured the program's first-ever victory at the ITA NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships on Saturday, defeating No. 17 Indianapolis 4–2 in a consolation semifinal at the USTA Midwest Tennis Center to advance to Sunday's fifth-place match.

The Chaparrals (3–2) earned their Indoor Nationals berth after advancing to the NCAA Division II national semifinals last season. After falling 4–3 to No. 5 Washburn in Friday's quarterfinal round as the tournament's No. 4 seed, LCU rebounded to defeat the No. 8-seeded Greyhounds and will face Lone Star Conference rival UT Tyler at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday.

LCU seized early control in doubles play against Indianapolis. The first match to finish came at No. 3 doubles, where Marco Seccia and Andrea Rossi Principe posted a 6–3 victory over Lorenzo Di Cursi and Jovan Matovic. Andres De Los Rios and Pablo Segura followed at No. 2 with a 6–4 win against Tadeo Gaggiofatto and Zaid Shelbaya, clinching the doubles point before the No. 1 match was halted at 5–5.

Singles began with a setback for the Chaparrals. At No. 2, No. 21 Gaggiofatto defeated No. 17 De Los Rios 6–2, 6–2 to even the team score at 1–1. LCU regained momentum at No. 4 singles, where No. 18 Segura delivered a decisive 6–4, 6–2 win over Matovic, restoring a 2–1 advantage.

The dual tightened again at No. 3, as Matthieu Derache rallied past No. 26 Mattia Ghedin 4–6, 6–4, 6–1 to level the match at 2–2.

From there, the Chaparrals closed the door.

At the top of the lineup, No. 4 Kelly Giese overcame No. 20 Asier Ayllon Prado in three sets, 5–7, 6–4, 6–2, giving LCU a 3–2 lead. The clinching point came at No. 6 singles, where Rossi Principe rebounded after dropping the first set to defeat Di Cursi 1–6, 6–4, 6–4, sealing the historic 4–2 victory.

Jordan Georgiev's match at No. 5 was left unfinished in the third set.

The victory marked LCU's first win at the Indoor National Championships and capped a resilient response following Friday's narrow quarterfinal loss to Washburn, in which the Chaparrals built a 3–0 lead before the Ichabods rallied for a 4–3 decision.

Segura proved pivotal across both duals, contributing a doubles win and a straight-set singles victory against Indianapolis after also winning at No. 4 singles Friday. Giese delivered one of the weekend's marquee performances, earning a top-10 win against Washburn's Pavlos Parson and following it with a three-set triumph over another nationally ranked opponent Saturday. Rossi Principe supplied the clinching point against UIndy and pushed his match to a third-set tiebreak in Friday's quarterfinal.

With the win, LCU advances to Sunday's fifth-place match against UT Tyler at the USTA Midwest Tennis Center, closing out the program's first trip to the Indoor National Championships.
