LUBBOCK, Texas (March 15, 2026) — The wind was blowing in upwards of 25 miles per hour for the entire game, but Lubbock Christian University still managed to scratch across five runs in a four-run win against Texas A&M International at Hays Filed on Sunday
A three-run surge in the seventh inning, put the game out of reach in a game that saw
Bryce Nall and
Caden Cline combine to limit TAMIU to just four hits.Â
Lubbock Christian earned its first series sweep of the season with the four wins against the Dustdevils, improving to 14-12 in the process. TAMIU falls to 10-16.
The Chaparrals faced the Dustdevils, securing a 5–1 victory through a series of key plays.
In the third inning, TAMIU took an early lead when Roberto Chaparro scored from second base on Saul Soto's single up the middle. It would be their only run of the day and one of only two times that a runner reached third base against the Chaps.Â
Lubbock Christian responded in the fourth inning with a two-out rally.
Roe Forrest doubled down the right field line, and
Ryan Gargett followed with an RBI single to tie the game.
Tanner Pachorek then doubled, bringing home Gargett and giving the Chaps the lead for good.Â
Nall settled in nicely after the run in the third, retiring seven straight batters at one point, before giving way to Cline in the seventh.
The Chaps got some insurance after Cline's first scoreless frame, again with two outs.
Kyle Lewis doubled to right field and scored on
Jorge De Los Santos's single.
Freddie Nolen, pinch-hitting, doubled to advance De Los Santos to third. Gargett then delivered a two-RBI double, extending the lead to 5–1 after seven innings.
Cline struck out the side in the eighth and then worked around an error, a hit and a hit batter in the ninth, inducing a double play to end the game.Â
Nall delivered a strong performance for LCU in just his second start of the year, pitching six innings with only three hits and one earned run allowed, while striking out six batters and issuing just one walk. He threw 86 pitches, 55 of which were strikes, securing his first-ever collegiate win.
GAME NOTES:Â
- Cline became the sixth different Chaparral pitcher to record a save this season. LCU has only had more pitchers record saves one time in the NCAA era (since 2015), and that was in 2024, when there were seven Chaps who did so.
- 10 of the Chaps' 13 hits on the day came with two outs. They hit .556 (10-for-18) with two outs in the game.
- Gargett's four-hit performance is his first in a Chaparral uniform. He becomes the fifth different Chap player with a four-hit game this season.
- Allowing just one run in his six innings of work, Nall lowered his ERA more than four full runs from 9.53 to 5.40.
- Eight of the nine Chap starters reached base in the win, including hits from seven of them.
NEXT UP:Â
Lubbock Christian will head out on the road next weekend, taking on Texas A&M-Kingsville in a four-game series at Nolan Ryan Field.Â
