Chaps Split Oklahoma Weekend, Top Southeastern Before Narrow Loss to No. 16 Washburn

No. 6 Lubbock Christian Sweeps Doubles In Both Matches While Giese Extends Singles Winning Streak To 10

STILLWATER, Okla. (March 16, 2026) - No. 6 Lubbock Christian split a pair of neutral-site matches in Oklahoma over the weekend, opening with a 4-1 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State Saturday in Oklahoma City before falling 4-3 to No. 16 Washburn Sunday in Stillwater.

Against Southeastern Oklahoma State, the Chaps (10-4) quickly seized control by sweeping the doubles point. The No. 1 tandem of Mattia Ghedin and Kelly Giese, ranked No. 16 nationally, finished first with a 6-2 victory over Benjamin Fracassi and Jose Pinto to extend their team-leading doubles total to nine wins. Marco Seccia and Andrea Rossi Principe followed with a 6-4 win at No. 3 over Eric Poindexter and Luke Tinnock, improving the pair to 7-1 this season in dual play, before Andres De Los Rios and Pablo Segura capped the sweep with a 6-4 decision against Paolo Estrada and Nolan Guerin at No. 2. LCU quickly pushed the lead to 2-0 in singles, as Segura earned the first singles decision with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Fracassi at No. 2.

No.3 nationally ranked Giese followed shortly after with a dominant 6-3, 6-1 win against Pinto at No. 1, extending his singles winning streak to nine matches and improving to 23-5 on the season and 12-1 in the top position. The Savage Storm avoided the shutout when Guerin defeated Rossi Principe 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5, but Seccia clinched the dual shortly after with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Estrada at No. 6.

Matches at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, featuring Ghedin and De Los Rios, went unfinished after the clinch. The meeting marked the fourth all-time between the programs, evening the series at 2-2, with all four contests played at neutral sites.

LCU opened strongly again in Sunday's matchup with No. 16 Washburn, claiming the doubles point despite an early setback at No. 3. Washburn's Yuto Miyagawa and Yoshinobu Nakatsuji defeated Seccia and Rossi Principe 6-4 to finish first, but the duo of Ghedin and Giese responded with a 6-4 win over Benjamin Fock and Zino Nahirniak for the pair's 10th win of the season. The point was secured at No. 2 doubles when De Los Rios and Segura edged Tommy Cecchetti and Pavlos Parson 7-6 (9-7), giving LCU a 1-0 lead.

In singles play, No. 17 De Los Rios extended the Chaps' advantage to 2-0 with the first completed match, defeating No. 50 Miyagawa 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 to push his winning streak to six and improve to 21-9 on the season. Washburn began its rally at No. 5, where Benjamin Fock outlasted Jordan Georgiev 7-6, 6-2, and quickly followed with another straight-set victory as Nahirniak topped Ghedin 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 to even the dual. The Ichabods then took the lead when Cecchetti, ranked No. 40 nationally, held off No.10 Segura 7-5, 7-6 at No. 2. Giese kept LCU within reach by winning a three-set battle at No. 1, rallying past No. 21 Parson 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 for his 10th consecutive singles victory and his 23rd win of the season. The match ultimately came down to the No. 6 position, where Moritz Pieper defeated Seccia 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the 4-3 victory for Washburn. The match was originally scheduled for Edmond, Oklahoma, but due to high winds and a significant cold front, both teams agreed to move the contest indoors to Greenwood Tennis Center on the campus of Oklahoma State.

Giese and Ghedin continued to pace LCU in doubles, winning both matches at the No. 1 position to extend their winning streak to three, while De Los Rios and Segura also captured both of their matches at No. 2 doubles. In singles play, Giese remained a key performer with two victories at the No. 1 position, including the three-set win over a nationally ranked opponent, while De Los Rios added another singles victory to extend his winning streak to six. The loss to Washburn put LCU's record to 6-3 against nationally ranked opponents overall (all classifications) and 3-3 against nationally ranked Division II opponents. They are 6-2 in neutral site duals and 10-5 overall on the season.

LCU will return to action March 27 in Richardson, Texas, opening Lone Star Conference play against UT Dallas in the first-ever meeting between the programs. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. at UTD Tennis Complex.
