Chaparrals Cap Perfect LSC Run, Claim First Regular Season Title Outright

No. 10 Chaparrals Sweep UTPB To Finish 8-0 In Conference And Secure Top Seed In LSC Championship

MIDLAND, Texas (April 25, 2026) – No. 10 Lubbock Christian University completed a perfect Lone Star Conference regular season Saturday afternoon, defeating UT Permian Basin 6-1 at Bush Tennis Center to improve to 19-5 overall and 8-0 in league play while securing the program's first LSC regular-season championship in outright fashion.

The Chaparrals established control early by sweeping the doubles point in order of finish. The No. 25-ranked tandem of Andres De Los Rios and Pablo Segura struck first at No. 2 with a 6-2 victory, followed by No.8-ranked squad of Mattia Ghedin and Kelly Giese at No. 1, who added a 6-3 decision to give LCU the edge. The point was capped at No. 3, where Marco Seccia and Andrea Rossi Principe battled to a 7-6 (7-4) win to complete the sweep and give LCU a 1-0 lead.

LCU carried that momentum into singles play, where the Chaparrals methodically extended their advantage following the order of finish. Seccia was first off the court at No. 5 with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory to push the lead to 2-0. No. 4 Giese followed at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-1 win, and No. 65 Ghedin extended the margin to 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 3 to clinch the dual. Rossi Principe rallied for a 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 victory at No. 6.

The Chaparrals final point came as No. 26 De Los Rios earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4, while UT Permian Basin's lone point came at No. 2 singles, where No. 18 Segura dropped a tightly contested 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) match.

LCU's depth and consistency were again on display, winning five of six singles matches in straight sets. Giese extended his winning streak to 19 matches, improving to 32-5 overall and 21-1 in dual play at No. 1, continuing his program-record single-season win total in singles (32). Ghedin pushed his winning streak to nine matches (26-10 overall, 18-4 in duals), while Seccia notched his seventh consecutive singles victory to move to 14-4 overall and 11-2 in dual play. De Los Rios improved to 28-11 on the season, and the doubles pairing of Ghedin and Giese increased its team-best total to 17 wins.

The victory marked LCU's fourth consecutive win over UT Permian Basin, improving the Chaparrals to 5-1 all-time in the series and 1-1 in Midland in just their second trip. Having played seven of eight conference matches on the road, Lubbock Christian enters the postseason as the No. 1 seed in the Lone Star Conference Championships, which begin Thursday at Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington, Texas.
