Junior Extends Win Streak To 14 With Two Top-15 Victories At No. 1 Singles

RICHARDSON, Texas (April 8, 2025) - Lubbock Christian University junior Kelly Giese has been named Lone Star Conference Men's Tennis Singles Player of the Week, the league office announced, following a dominant performance at the No. 1 position that led the Chaparrals to a pair of ranked road victories.

Giese, a management major from Manhattan Beach, California, went 2-0 in singles play during the week, earning victories over two top-15 nationally ranked opponents. He opened with a straight-set 6-4, 7-5 win over Cameron's No. 8-ranked Lukas Janousek on April 2, helping LCU secure a 6-1 win despite dropping the doubles point. Giese followed with a match-clinching performance on April 3, outlasting No. 14 Germano Setti of Midwestern State in a three-set battle, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, to lift the Chaparrals to a 5-2 victory and the program's first-ever road win over the Mustangs.

The wins extended Giese's singles winning streak to 14 matches and improved his season record to 27-5 overall, including a 16-1 mark in dual matches. He is a perfect 9-0 against nationally ranked opponents this season, further solidifying his position among the top singles players in NCAA Division II.

This marks Giese's fourth Lone Star Conference Singles Player of the Week honor this season and the seventh of his career. He has now earned the award in consecutive weeks for the second time this year. Last week, Giese also garnered LSC Men's Doubles Team of the Week honors alongside teammate Mattia Ghedin, marking the first doubles weekly award of his career and bringing his total weekly conference honors to eight.

In the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released Wednesday, Giese moved to No. 3 nationally in singles, while he and Ghedin are ranked No. 7 in doubles. Lubbock Christian also climbed to No. 8 in the national team rankings.
