LUBBOCK, Texas (May 28, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University placed the maximum four student-athletes from both the Chaparrals and Lady Chaparrals on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, as eight total LCU tennis standouts were recognized for their combined success in the classroom and on the court.
Representing the Chaparrals were
Andres De Los Rios,
Mattia Ghedin,
Kelly Giese and
Pablo Segura, while the Lady Chaparrals were represented by
Andrea De Bernardo,
Oshini Herath,
Alexandra Luders and
AnaMaria Zoric.
To qualify for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average while also meeting participation requirements in team-scoring matches. Student-athletes selected to the Academic All-District Team advance to consideration for CSC Academic All-America honors.
LCU's men's tennis program, which captured both the Lone Star Conference regular-season and tournament championships, featured four nationally ranked singles players among the honorees. It marks a single-season program high for Academic All-District selections.
De Los Rios, a finance major from Madrid, Spain, compiled a 31-12 singles record and 24-9 doubles mark while earning All-LSC recognition in both singles and doubles competition. Nationally ranked as high as No. 10 in singles during the season, he also qualified for the ITA Cup after finishing as the ITA South Central Region singles finalist. De Los Rios went 18-7 in duals (in singles), going 12-3 at the No.4 spot and finished the season nationally ranked No.30 (closed his career going 8-1 in his final nine matches). He teamed up with Segura to go 17-8 in duals (all at No.2 spot) and finished the season No.23 in the final national doubles rankings. His 31 singles wins this season marked the second-highest single-season wins totals (in singles) in program history. In two seasons with LCU, he compiled a 54-19 record in singles and a 44-23 record in doubles play.
Ghedin, a senior exercise science major from Treviso, Italy, also helped anchor the nationally ranked Chaparrals lineup throughout the championship season behind a 4.00 GPA. He went 28-11 in singles and 23-15 in doubles during the 2025-26 campaign. The First Team All-LSC selection in singles went 8-0 in LSC play and 20-5 in duals (15-5 at No.3 spot) to finish the season nationally ranked No.43. He had an incredible season in doubles, teaming with Giese to earn LSC Doubles Team of the Year (they went 18-10 together at the No.1 spot in duals) and the tandem completed the season ranked No.11 (went 5-4 against nationally ranked competition). Ghedin co-led LCU on the season in doubles wins (23), going 23-15 in doubles play. In three seasons with LCU, the Grand Canyon transfer completed his LCU career with a 68-33 mark in singles and 63-37 in doubles.
Giese, a management graduate from Manhattan Beach, Calif., highlighted the selections after earning LSC Singles Player of the Year, LSC Doubles Team of the Year (with Ghedin) and LSC Championships MVP honors. Completing the season nationally ranked No. 3 in singles (went 11-0 against nationally ranked opponents on the season) and No. 11 in doubles (with Ghedin), Giese posted a 23-1 singles record in duals (34-5 overall) and 17-8 doubles (23-13 overall, co-leading LCU in doubles wins) mark while competing primarily at the No. 1 positions. He also set a program single-season record with 34 singles victories and qualified for the ITA Cup last fall. Giese, who spent all four seasons of the program's existence and graduated from LCU, intends to transfer to Nebraska for his final season of eligibility. He takes with him a career record of 83-26 in singles (19-5 against nationally ranked opponents) and 70-32 in doubles (13-12 against nationally ranked opponents).
Segura, a business major from Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, carried a perfect 4.00 GPA while producing a 17-7 record in both singles and doubles play in duals (went 25-14 overall in singles and 22-11 overall in doubles). The junior earned ITA Cup qualification and All-LSC honors after spending the season nationally ranked in both singles and doubles competition (ended the season nationally ranked No.27 in singles and No.23 in doubles, teamed with De Los Rios). Segura, who went 12-6 this season at the No.2 spot in singles (duals) will return next season with a career record of 82-38 in singles and 62-33 in doubles.
On the women's side, LCU also had a quartet of players recognized to match the maximum number of honorees permitted per program under CSC guidelines. It is their second season to have four student-athletes recognized.
Andrea De Bernardo, a junior marketing major from Caracas, Venezuela, delivered another historic season for Lubbock Christian University women's tennis in 2025-26, helping lead the Lady Chaparrals to a 15-7 overall record, an NCAA South Central Regional appearance and an 8-2 finish in Lone Star Conference play. De Bernardo earned First Team All-Lone Star Conference honors in singles and teamed with sophomore
AnaMaria Zoric to become the first doubles pairing in program history to earn Lone Star Conference Doubles Team of the Year recognition. Ranked No. 69 nationally in singles and No. 3 nationally in doubles alongside Zoric at season's end, De Bernardo finished the year 19-11 overall in singles play, including a 14-7 dual-match mark while primarily competing at the No. 1 line. The nationally elite doubles tandem of De Bernardo and Zoric compiled a 19-3 overall record, including an 18-2 dual-match mark, a perfect 10-0 conference record and an 8-1 mark against nationally ranked opponents. De Bernardo closed her junior campaign with 60 career singles victories and 66 career doubles wins, continuing to establish herself among the most accomplished players in program history.
Senior biology major
Oshini Herath, from Kandy, Sri Lanka, concluded a decorated four-year career as one of the foundational figures in the resurgence of Lubbock Christian University women's tennis. A member of the Lady Chaparrals' inaugural modern-era roster in 2022-23, Herath provided veteran leadership throughout the program's rapid rise into NCAA Division II postseason contention. During the 2025-26 season, Herath earned selection to the Lone Star Conference Sportsmanship Team for the second consecutive year while contributing across both singles and doubles competition. She finished the season with a 13-16 overall singles record and a 13-13 doubles mark, including a 7-9 doubles record alongside Luders. The pair supplied LCU's lone completed victory during the NCAA South Central Regional against nationally ranked UT Tyler with a 6-3 win at the No. 2 doubles position. Herath closed her collegiate career with 49 singles victories and 46 doubles wins while helping the Lady Chaparrals secure consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and establish themselves among the Lone Star Conference contenders.
Alexandra Luders, a senior exercise science major from Traralgon South, Australia, finished the season with a 12-17 overall doubles record, including a 12-10 mark in dual matches and a 5-5 conference record. She teamed most frequently with fellow senior Herath, as the duo posted seven doubles victories together. Luders also contributed in singles competition, finishing 3-7 overall while earning a dual-match victory during the spring campaign. Across her Lady Chaparrals career, Luders totaled 15 doubles victories while helping provide experience and stability for a lineup featuring one of the nation's top-ranked doubles pairings and several emerging underclassmen.
AnaMaria Zoric, a sophomore biochemistry major from Dubrovnik, Croatia, assembled one of the premier seasons in NCAA Division II women's tennis. Zoric earned ITA South Central Region Women's Player to Watch honors after finishing the season ranked No. 39 nationally in singles and No. 3 nationally in doubles alongside
Andrea De Bernardo. She claimed All-Lone Star Conference recognition in both singles and doubles, including Second Team singles honors and Doubles Team of the Year recognition with De Bernardo after the duo produced a 19-3 overall doubles record, an 18-2 dual-match mark and an 8-1 record against nationally ranked competition. In singles play, Zoric tied for the team lead with 22 victories while posting a 16-5 dual-match record and a 15-5 mark at the No. 2 position. Off the court, Zoric excelled academically with a perfect 4.00 GPA as a biochemistry major, earning Lone Star Conference All-Academic Team honors while continuing to build one of the strongest all-around résumés in the region. Through two collegiate seasons, Zoric owns a 40-13 career singles record and a 36-14 doubles mark.
It was a successful fourth season in the history of LCU tennis at the NCAA level. The men's squad finished with a No.6 national ranking, as the national quarterfinalists completed the season 23-6, which included an 8-0 conference mark and a 13-4 record against nationally ranked competition. Of their six losses, two were against NCAA Division I programs and four were against teams ranked inside the top-20 (three inside the top-10). The women's program made their second NCAA postseason appearance in program history (second consecutive season) and finished 15-7 on the season. Of their seven losses, two were against NCAA Division I opponents and four were against nationally ranked programs. They finished the season with the No.48 national ranking.
