Lady Chaps Drop 2026 Opener

Holloway Scores Season's First Goal

LUBBOCK, Texas (August 29, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University fought hard through the heat in their first game of the season, but fell to Fort Lewis College 2-1 at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex on Saturday. A late first half goal evened the score at one at the break, but the Skyhawks took a lead in the 60th minute and held off a late Lady Chap attack in the LCU loss.

The first period began with the Lady Chaps establishing their defensive presence, highlighted by Emma Wright's save against a shot from Maleia Dayao in the 26th minute. Despite a solid defensive effort, Fort Lewis managed to take an early lead with a goal by Addyson Carpentier in the 16th minute, assisted by Dayao.

Fort Lewis nearly doubled their lead in the 34th minute, forcing another save from Wright, but Lubbock Christian responded with increasing offensive pressure. Kaslee Roskelley and Logan Holloway each attempted shots, with Holloway's effort in the 35th minute being saved by Skyhawks goalkeeper Trinity Lujan.

As the period neared its conclusion, Holloway capitalized on an assist from Lauren Rotan, notching a goal with just six seconds left before the horn sounded to deadlock the game as the two teams broke for halftime.

FLC scored in the opening third of the second have as well, getting the game's decisive goal in the 60th minute. A long free kick attempt from Amber Otts was put on frame and saved by Wright, but the rebound went right to Carpentier, who buried the eventual game-winner.

The Lady Chaps' defense faced pressure but managed to hold firm, even as Fort Lewis attempted to extend its advantage. As the period progressed, the Chaps sought to equalize, with Araceli Patterson forcing a save from Lujan.

There was nearly late-half magic again for LCU, whose best chance to score a second goal game in the 89th minute. A cross was played to the back post where Maya Quinones waited, but her header was saved by Lujan to preserve the Skyhawk win.

GAME NOTES:
- Holloway's goal was the second of her collegiate career. She scored once as a freshman, hitting the game-winner against West Texas A&M on Oct. 29.
- The Lady Chaps finished with four corner kicks and allowed just two from the Skyhawks. Last season they were 4-4-1 when drawing more corners than their opponents.
- FLC lost all five games where they allowed a goal in 2025. The last time they won a game when allowing at least one goal was Sept. 27, 2024, against CSU-Pueblo.
- The Chaparrals are now 10-6-1 in season-openers all time, and their last win in the first game of the season was in 2022.
- Rotan's assist is the fourth of her collegiate career. She had two last season.
