Chaps Beat Jets 3-1

LCU Tallies 12 Shots on Goal in Win

LUBBOCK, Texas (September 10, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University got back in the win column with a 3-1 win over Newman on Thursday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex. The Chaps led 2-0 at halftime and held off a late comeback attempt by the Jets to preserve the win.

The Chaparrals are 2-3-0 overall. NU is 1-4-0 overall.

Sophomore forward Alex Lachevre put the Chaps in front in just the sixth minute, finishing off Jack Brassey's assist for a 1-0 lead. The Chaparrals kept pushing after the opener, forcing Guilherme Borges into saves on shots by Jackson Preece and Brassey while also earning three corner kicks between 10:55 and 15:48.

The Jets generated a response midway through the half, but Milo Paci saved Yohsuke Ono's shot in the 25th minute as the Chaps got through a stretch of NU pressure without conceding. The half grew more physical late, with the Chaparrals absorbing fouls and a yellow card before Oliver Robinson scored on a breakaway with just over a minute left in the half to put LCU up 2-0 at the break.

The Jets cut the margin to 2-1 just two minutes into the second half on Vincent Edgell's goal, and Paci made a save on Alonso Fernandez in the 52nd minute to keep the Chaps in front, but NU dropped to 10 men after a red card was assessed in the 58th minute.

In the 74th minute, LCU increased their lead back to two when Agusto Militao scored on an assist from Lachevre. Newman responded again and had back-to-back shots hit the crossbar and the post in the 81st minute, but they were unable to find the back of the net. The Chaps also created late chances through Brassey and Robinson, and finished off the match with a 3-1 win.

GAME NOTES:
- The Chaps' three goals scored are a season high. The last time they scored three or more goals in a match was Oct. 4, 2024, when they beat St. Edward's 3-2.
- The goals by Lachevre and Robinson were their first in a Chaparral uniform and for Robinson, the first of his collegiate career. Six different players have now scored for the Chaps this season.
- The Chaparrals' 12 shots on goal matched their 2025 season high, which they set on Oct. 8 against Texas A&M International. The last time the Chaps had more than 12 shots on goal was Sept. 14, 2019, when they had 14 against Oklahoma Baptist.
- A whopping six of those shots on goal came from Oli Robinson, who played 53 minutes off the bench. It is tied for the most in a single match by a Chap in the NCAA era (since 2015). Fernando Flores also had six in the same 2019 match against OBU. Robinson is now tied for third in the LSC in shots on goal with eight.
- The Chaps finished with just four corner kicks to six for the Jets. It is their first win this season when finishing with fewer corner kicks than their opponent.

NEXT UP:
Lubbock Christian will continue their homestand with a match against Fort Hays State at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Tigers come into the matchup ranked No. 25 nationally.
