LAWTON, Okla. (September 15, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University opened its fall tennis schedule with a collection of strong individual performances at the Cameron Invitational, as
Pablo Segura and
Hayden Loffler reached the championship match of the men's top doubles flight and Segura advanced to the Flight A singles final during two days of competition at the Streich-Henry Tennis Complex.
The individual tournament, contested Friday and Saturday, did not include team scoring and divided competitors into singles and doubles flights. LCU competed against players from host Cameron, Midwestern State and Central Oklahoma, with the Chaparrals and Lady Chaparrals combining for 18 victories across singles and doubles competition.
Segura supplied the deepest singles run for the Chaparrals, advancing to the championship match of men's Flight A. The senior opened with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over Midwestern State's Filip Vacula before defeating MSU's Marc Sampol Valverde 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals. Cameron's Abubakari Yakubu Lea stopped Segura's run in the final with a 6-4, 6-2 decision.
Segura's weekend continued alongside Loffler in the Flight A doubles bracket. The LCU tandem defeated Sampol Valverde and Jack Franklin of Midwestern State 7-5 in the quarterfinals before knocking off Cameron's Lukas Holub and Andres Serrano 6-4 in the semifinals. Vacula and Bruno Sanchez of Midwestern State edged Segura and Loffler 7-6 (7-3) in the championship match, leaving the Chaparrals with runner-up finishes in both the top singles and doubles flights.
Loffler also worked his way through a pair of three-set singles matches in Flight C. He fell to Cameron's Kerem Tufekci 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) in his opener before responding in consolation play with a 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8) victory over Jaime Moran of Midwestern State.
Two Chaparrals made their LCU debuts during the weekend, as freshmen
Ayden Fraire and
Amir Gaisin each collected their first collegiate victories in an LCU uniform. Gaisin opened Flight A against Cameron's Holub and fell 6-3, 6-4, but rebounded with a 6-4, 6-2 consolation victory over Sanchez. His final singles match went the distance against Vacula, who prevailed 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (12-10). Fraire made his debut in Flight B, taking the opening set against Midwestern State's Cesar Loeches Llamas before falling 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6). Fraire bounced back with a straight-set 6-4, 6-2 victory over MSU's Jose Portillo.
Fraire and Gaisin also teamed together in doubles. The freshman pairing dropped its opening match to Vacula and Sanchez, 6-1, and was edged 7-5 by Portillo and Loeches Llamas in consolation play before closing the event on a winning note. Fraire and Gaisin defeated Midwestern State's T. Leguizamon Chaves and Kenneth Latimer 7-6 (7-3) to earn their first doubles victory together.
On the women's side,
Aitanna Moreno Villa produced LCU's longest singles winning streak of the weekend. After Midwestern State's Ekin Ozmen edged Moreno Villa 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 in the Flight C quarterfinals, the sophomore responded with consecutive straight-set wins. She defeated Central Oklahoma's Milana Quick 6-2, 6-0 and followed with another 6-2, 6-0 victory over Cameron's Anna Deuringer to close the tournament with a 2-1 singles record.
Andrea De Bernardo and
Kristel Jativa each reached the semifinals of their respective flights. De Bernardo opened Flight A with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Cameron's Marie-Alix Urcun before Midwestern State's Victoria Vieten prevailed in a three-set semifinal, 2-6, 6-2, 10-7. Jativa defeated Central Oklahoma's Hui Yii Soo 6-3, 6-4 in the Flight B quarterfinals before falling 6-3, 6-1 to Midwestern State's Alessia Dolce in the semifinals.
Freshman
Lili Kovacs-Sebestyen and junior transfer
Naghely Garcia made their Lady Chaparral debuts in Lawton, and each came away with a singles victory. Kovacs-Sebestyen pushed Central Oklahoma's Anika Ouwejan to a deciding match tiebreak before falling 6-0, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) in her opening Flight A match. She answered with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Cameron's Alexa Garcia before Central Oklahoma's Mei Hasegawa closed her singles weekend with a 6-2, 6-3 decision.
Naghely Garcia also recovered from an opening-round setback. Midwestern State's Cami Garcia Morales defeated Garcia 6-4, 6-4 in Flight B, but Garcia earned her first LCU singles win by outlasting Cameron's Nil Kalkavan 6-0, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6). Central Oklahoma's Soo then defeated Garcia 7-5, 6-1 in her final singles match.
Gabriela Franco split a pair of Flight D round-robin matches. She opened with one of LCU's most decisive performances of the weekend, blanking Central Oklahoma's Brylee Toney 6-0, 6-0. Midwestern State's Ana Maria Podrug responded with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Franco in the second round-robin contest.
LCU's women also found success in doubles, highlighted by Garcia and Kovacs-Sebestyen closing the tournament with back-to-back shutouts in consolation play. The duo defeated Cameron's Urcun and Daniela Maldonado 6-0 before posting another 6-0 win over Central Oklahoma's Dilay Ata and Haley Hibbets. Those victories came after Garcia had initially partnered with Jativa and Kovacs-Sebestyen with De Bernardo in the main draw.
Franco and Moreno Villa also earned a main-draw doubles victory, edging Cameron's Urcun and Kalkavan 7-6 (7-4) in the opening round of Flight A. Central Oklahoma's Ouwejan and Hasegawa then defeated the LCU tandem 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Jativa and Garcia were edged 7-5 by Soo and Ayaka Koga of Central Oklahoma, while Vieten and Garcia Morales of Midwestern State defeated De Bernardo and Kovacs-Sebestyen 6-1.
The Cameron Invitational marked the first fall competition for LCU under Director of Tennis Mitch Hallum and provided the Chaparrals and Lady Chaparrals their first competitive look of the 2026-27 season. LCU continues its fall schedule Sept. 24-26 at the Tyler Invitational in Tyler, Texas.
