LUBBOCK, Texas (September 23, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University played No. 21 Midwestern State to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex. The Lady Chaps came from behind to tie the Mustangs, who came into the match having won all eight of their matches this season. 

The Chaps are 5-1-3 overall and 2-0-3 in conference play. The Mustangs are 8-0-1 overall and 4-0-1 in conference play.

The Lady Chaps handled an early Mustangs push in the first half, keeping the match scoreless through the opening 15 minutes despite four shots and three corner kicks from the visitors, with Emma Wright making a save during that stretch. 

The home side answered with chances of its own, as Samantha Simpson and Mia Chambliss each put shots on frame that Lauren Short saved. The Chaps later generated set-piece pressure with two corners between the 18th and 23rd minutes, along with attempts from Claire Jacobson and Simpson, then added two more corners in the final 15 minutes of the half. Wright made another save in the 43rd minute before MSU earned a late corner, and the first half ended scoreless.

Wright continued her strong performance with a save on Ella Adams early in the half, but the Mustangs broke through 10 minutes after the break on a goal by Lexi Gonzales. MSU got three more shot attempts that missed the mark as they tried to double the lead before LCU found their answer. 

It came from a free kick, taking by Journey Curs in the 63rd minutes. She sent the set piece to the back post, where Addyson McElhaney headed it toward the goal where it hit the right post. The rebound bounced to Sydney Smith, who headed it into the back of the net to tie the game. 

The Lady Chaps nearly added another in the 75th minute, with Curs hitting the right woodwork on another free kick and Maya Quinones missing high moments later during a stretch that included fouls from both teams. 

The Mustangs pushed late with four corner kicks in the final five minutes and shots from Bella Rose and Leeci Snyder, but Wright stepped up big and saved Snyder's attempt and the Lady Chaps saw the second half — and the match — finish 1-1.

GAME NOTES: 
- The Lady Chaps became the first team to score a goal against the Mustangs this season. The Mustangs' last goal allowed was in the South Central Regional at the end of the 2025 season.
- Smith's goal was her second of the season, making her the seventh different Lady Chap with at least two goals so far this year.
- Wright made five more saves, bringing her season total to 40. Her save percentage of .851 is the fifth-best in the Lone Star Conference.
- The Lady Chaps have only lost once through their first nine matches, making this their best start to a season since 2021, when they did not lose their second match until the 10th game of the year.
- The Mustangs were able to draw 11 corner kicks in the game, which is the most by a Lady Chap opponent since Nov. 4, 2024, when Angelo State had 13.
