LUBBOCK, Texas (September 26, 2026) — Lubbock Christian scored a pair of second half goals to beat St. Edward's 2-0 on Saturday, earning their first Lone Star Conference win of the 2026 season. Alex Lachevre had the go-ahead goal and Joao Catafesta converted a late PK to put the game out of reach. 

The Chaps are 4-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play. The Hilltoppers are 1-5-2 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.

Lubbock Christian had the higher shot total in the first half but could not finish, putting 10 shots toward goal to the Hilltoppers' four and earning three corner kicks. Aaron DePaula hit the left woodwork just 31 seconds in after a miscue from the SEU keeper, and the Chaps kept the early pressure on with two corners and two Augusto Militao attempts, one of which was saved by Edward Alonzi. 

The middle of the half turned more physical, with the Chaps called for multiple fouls and Max Moorahrend shown a yellow card in the 27th minute, while SEU earned three corners over the next several minutes without scoring. The Chaps added later chances from Thomas Unwin, Finn Wijnen and Lucas Carli, with Alonzi saving Wijnen's effort, and neither team scored before halftime.

The Chaps broke through early in the second half when they earned a free kick just inside their offensive half. Catafesta took the kick quickly, noticing a gap in the SEU defense and playing the ball to Lachevre, who shot from just outside the 18-yard box and hit the bottom of the crossbar before the ball crossed the goal line. 

St. Edward's pushed back with a run of chances, but Chap goalkeeper Arath Valdez, playing for the first time this season, made four saves between the 54th and 64th minutes to keep the Chaps in front. Junior Lopez forced a save in the 72nd minute, and after another Chaps chance, Catafesta converted a penalty kick at 75:50 to make it 2-0. 

SEU continued to press late, including two corner kicks, a shot off the woodwork and a final save by Valdez in the 88th minute, but the Chaps closed out the half and the match with a 2-0 win.

GAME NOTES: 
- With two more points on the day, Chaps midfielder Lachevre now has eight points on the season, which is tied for seventh-most in the LSC
- The Chaps notched their third shutout of the year, lowering their goals against average to 1.33, which is fifth in the conference
- The Chaps were out-shot 18-16 in the contest, making this their first win this season when an opponent finished with more shots than them. They are now 1-3-1 in those games
- Catafesta's helper made him the third Chap with multiple assists so far this season, joining Lachevre and Augusto Militao
- The Chaps are now 4-1-1 in games played in Lubbock this season, out-scoring opponents 13-3 at the friendly confines
