LCU Shuts Out UTPB

ODESSA, Texas (September 30, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University ended September with a win, defeating UT Permian Basin 1-0 on Wednesday at the Falcon Soccer Field. The Lady Chaps finished with a 27-8 shot advantage, put 13 shots on goal and recorded a five-save shutout.

LCU improved to 6-2-3 overall and 3-1-3 in conference play. UTPB is 4-6-0 overall and 1-6-0 in conference play.

The Lady Chaps created the larger share of recorded chances in the first half, totaling 13 shots and four corner kicks while the Falcons had three shots and two corners. The visitors had to absorb an early UTPB surge first, with Emma Wright saving Breanna Reagan's shot just two minutes into the match before Reagan put another attempt wide after a second corner.

Lubbock Christian answered quickly when Araceli Patterson hit the post at the 4:46 mark off a corner, and Journey Curs forced a save 33 seconds later. Two more Curs corner kicks led to blocked attempts by Kaslee Roskelley, Samantha Simpson, and Kali Guy. After Wright stopped Emily Morales in the 25th minute, the Lady Chaps took three shots in 30 seconds from Curs and Roskelley, but neither team was able to break through and the half ended 0-0.

The Lady Chaps pressed from the restart, recording six shots in the first 15 minutes, while Emma Wright made three saves at the other end to keep UTPB off the board. Samantha Simpson supplied the breakthrough for the Lady Chaps in the 70th minute after yet another LCU corner. Curs played the ball into Claire Jacobson, who had a shot blocked. The rebound headed back to Curs, who played it into the box where Simpson headed it home.

Lubbock Christian kept generating looks afterward as Curs, Simpson and Addyson McElhaney forced saves, but were unable to add to their lead. The defense locked in and held the Falcons to one shot after the goal to close out the shutout.

GAME NOTES:
- Simpson's goal made her the 10th different Lady Chap to find the back of the net and the fifth different player with a game-winning goal.
- LCU beat UTPB for the 15th time in the all-time series, which started in 2013, improving to 14-2-2 all-time against the Falcons. The Lady Chaps have not lost in the series since 2015.
- Emma Wright added five more saves in the win and now has a save percentage of .833, which is the highest in the LSC of anyone with at least 50 saves.
- The Lady Chaps notched their fourth shutout of the season, one shy of matching their season total from 2025.
- The Lady Chaps' 27 shots are the most in a single game since Sept. 17, 2025, when they tallied 33 in a 5-0 win against Sul Ross. Their 13 shots on goal also matched a season-high.
