Keith Giboney enters his fifth season as head coach of the Lubbock Christian University volleyball program, continuing a career that has spanned three decades and produced more than 445 victories at the collegiate level.
Giboney’s volleyball roots in Lubbock date back to 1993, when he guided Lubbock Christian High School to three TAPPS state titles in four seasons with a 110-25 record. He later moved to Dallas Christian High School, winning another TAPPS title in a two-year stint before transitioning to the NCAA Division II ranks at Harding University in Searcy, Ark.
At Harding, Giboney established himself as one of the most successful coaches in the Gulf South Conference. Over 13 seasons, he compiled a 337-122 (.734) record, winning seven GSC titles and earning five GSC West Division Coach of the Year honors. His teams posted a 136-24 (.850) conference record, including two undefeated league seasons, and he was named GSC Coach of the Decade in 2010 after leading the Bisons to four NCAA Tournament appearances.
Giboney returned to coaching in 2017 at Alabama-Huntsville after a brief break from the sidelines, guiding the Chargers to three straight GSC tournament appearances before taking over at LCU in 2021.
He made an immediate impact in Lubbock, where the Lady Chaps produced a 20-8 record in his first season and earned their first Lone Star Conference tournament victory in program history. After an 11-16 mark in 2022, LCU bounced back with a 17-9 record in 2023, opening the season 7-0 for the program’s best start since 2010.
In 2024, Giboney guided the Lady Chaps to a 13-14 overall record and a 9-7 mark in LSC play, qualifying for the conference tournament for the first time since 2021. LCU ranked among the nation’s best statistically, finishing 27th in Division II in kills per set (13.7) and 28th in assists per set (12.7).
Through four seasons at LCU, Giboney holds a 61-47 overall record and a 38-26 mark in LSC play. His career NCAA Division II record stands at 445-218 (.671), ranking him 32nd among active head coaches in win percentage and 24th in total victories. Among head coaches with 20 years or less of experience, he owns the third-highest career win total.
Overall, Giboney has four NCAA Tournament appearances, seven conference championships, and more than 445 career wins to his credit. He notched his 400th victory on Oct. 30, 2021, against UT Permian Basin inside LCU’s Rip Griffin Center.
A 1993 graduate of LCU, Giboney met his wife, Michal Warren, while both were students. Michal starred for the Lady Chaps from 1990-93 and graduated as the program’s career digs leader. The couple has two daughters, Emily and Abbey, and a grandson, Hudson.
