A One-Hit Day

Chaps Dominate Cowboys in Tripleheader

LAS VEGAS, N.M. - March 30, 1982 is probably the best day Chaparral pitchers have ever enjoyed, as Steve Hunter, Bruce Colson and Chris Cook all threw one-hitters against New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas, N.M.

And there would have been three shutouts recorded also, except that Hunter's lone hit allowed, in the fourth inning of the opener, was a two-run homer by Mike Glover.

Not to fear, though, as the Chaps banged out 46 hits and scored 42 runs, winning 11-2, 11-0 and 18-0, as the final two games were shortened to five frames and the opener went six innings as LCC extended its winning streak to 12 games.

A Lubbockite, Dalan Romero, broke up the other two no-hitters, getting a fifth-inning singel off Colson and a third inning single off Cook.

In raising his record to 10-1, Hunter walked four and fanned one in the 94-mintue game. colson upped his record to 6-2 and allowed only four base runners (1 walk, 1 hit, 2 errors) in a game that lasted 100 minutes. Cook's mark went to 6-1 as the southpaw allowed only two baserunners (1 walk, 1 hit) in the 99-minute affair.
