A 27-Run Afternoon

LCC Sweeps Doubleheader

LUBBOCK, Texas - When the linescore reads 24 (10)  055 . -- 27, you know a team has had a good afternoon. The above was the Chaps' effort in the second game of a home double header February 18, 1983 against New Mexico Highlands.

LCC managed those 27  runs on 22 hits (13 singles, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 3 homers) and also received six walks and saw the Cowboys commit seven errors in a game that lasted two hours, 31 minutes.

Everybody in the starting lineup had at least one hit except first basemen Rich Weligman, with leadoff man Randy Velarde going 5-for-5 with five runs scored and four RBIs. Dan O'Connor, Bob Fannin and Steve Coleman all had three hits, with Fannin driving in four runs and Coleman, Jimmy Morris and Chet Feldman three each. O'Connor and Randy Ledbetter each drove in two and Mike Rivera added one. Bob Hinson was the benefactor of the explosion, going six innings to run his record to 2-0 and allowing seven hits and zero walks.
