'12 Men's Soccer Additions

LUBBOCK, Texas (August 13, 2012) - Lubbock Christian University men's soccer head coach Kyle Beard has announced his incoming class for the 2012 season.  The Chaparrals welcome seven new players to their roster.

The seven players are comprised of four transfers and three high school recruits.  Highlighting the list of transfers is goalkeeper Erik Mozzo from Clemson.  The 6'3" keeper spent the past two seasons at Clemson after transferring from St. Leo University in Florida.  Additional four-year college transfers include Timothy Haywood (Lindsey Wilson) and Resse Lawson (Howard Payne).  David Hagen is the lone junior college transfer, coming in from Western Texas College.

Two of the three high school recruits have local ties.  Marc Casares and Nando Hernandez join the Chaps after serving as teammates at Monterey High School.  They were each three-time All-District selections with the Plainsmen.  Chase Williams was recruited from Mabank High School and is a native of Gun Barrel City.

Here is a look at the Chaps recruits, who will make their debut when the Chaps open their 2012 season on Aug. 27 at home hosting University of the Southwest (NM):

Marc Casares (Fr. Lubbock, Texas) - A local product out of Monterey High School, Marc joins the Chaps after a trio of All-District 2-5A seasons.  He was a First Team selection his sophomore, junior and senior seasons, and claimed the District Newcomer of the Year his sophomore season.  He helped MHS to a UIL postseason appearance his senior season.  He participated in club play in Midland, Texas with the West Texas United junior program.

David Hagen (Jr. London, England) - Originally from St. Albans, England, Hagan comes to LCU after a pair of junior college seasons at Western Texas College.  He appeared in 40 games over two seasons at WTC and combined for 22 goals and 15 assists for 59 points.  As a junior, he registered nine goals and six assists or 24 points.  Hagen, a midfielder and forward who now calls London home, was selected as a Team Captain by WTC.

Timothy Haywood (Jr. Black River, Jamaica) - The defender joins the Chaps after transferring in from Lindsey Wilson College, where he spent time as a student and did not participate in soccer.  He played two seasons (2008-2009) at Bethlehem Moravian College in Malvern, Jamaica.  Attended high school at Black River High School in Black River, Jamaica.

Nando Hernandez (Fr. Lubbock, Texas) - Nando, short for Fernando, comes to LCU from Monterey High School in Lubbock.  He is a three-time All-District 2-5A selection, receiving Second Team as a sophomore and First Team accolades as a junior and senior.  He helped MHS to a UIL postseason appearance his senior season.  Played club soccer locally with Lubbock Lonestar.

Reese Lawson (Jr. Mesquite, Texas) - The midfielder transfers in from NCAA Div. III Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, where he spent the past two seasons.  Last season, he was third on the team in scoring with 8 points (three goals and two assists) in 15 points.  He tallied three goals (all game winners) and three assists in 16 games in 2010 as a freshman.  Lawson graduated from Poteet High School, where he made the most of one season of soccer.  He claimed Second Team All-State and Team MVP honors at PHS.

Erik Mozzo (Jr. Beaufort, S.C.) - Erik transfers to LCU from Clemson University, where he spent the past two seasons.  The goalkeeper redshirted in 2010 and appeared in one game last season.  His lone contest last season was an 8-save 3-1 loss to No.14 Charlotte.  Prior to his time at Clemson, he played at St. Leo University in Florida.  As a freshman, he went 6-8-0 with 55 saves, one shutout and a 1.54 GAA.  He did not allow a goal to begin his college career for the first 221-minutes (221:33).  Erik is a product of Beaufort High School in Beaufort, S.C., where he was a two-time All-Region and Defensive Player of the Year award winner.  He was part of a club squad, Bridge FA, which won a national title in 2006.

Chase Williams (Fr. Gun Barrel City, Texas) - Chase is the lone freshman recruit not from the South Plains, as he comes from Mabank High School.  He received First Team All-District 31-4A honors as a senior and was Mabank's lone representative to receive honors.  His senior season he registered 20 goals and eight assists in 21 games played.
