ODESSA, Texas (October 29, 2015) –
Kacey Deterding and
Christiana Tavo each recorded 10 kills to lead Lubbock Christian University to a sweep of Texas-Permian Basin by three identical scores of 25-14 Thursday night inside the Falcon Dome to pull within a half-game behind third-place Dallas Baptist in the Heartland Conference standings.
The Falcons (4-17, 2-11 Heartland) reeled off the first four points of the evening with a pair of service aces from Jordan McDonald and two LCU attack errors. The Lady Chaps (15-9, 8-5 Heartland) fell behind 8-2 before amassing a 17-0 run that included a dozen errors by UTPB to leap ahead 19-8. Kills from Tavo and Deterding finalized set one.
Another big run in set two took the Lady Chaps from a 2-1 deficit to a 9-2 advantage. Two kills apiece by
Ariel Froeschl and Deterding put LCU in front, 15-4.
Samantha Matthews and
Maddie Johnson supplied another pair of kills to stay ahead 18-10 before wrapping up the frame on a UTPB ball handling error.
LCU again took advantage of a string of Falcon errors in set three to pull ahead 10-6 and kept a steady lead throughout. A service ace by
Kyleigh Lucia put the Lady Chaps up 17-11 before four more UTPB mishaps extended the gap to 21-12.
Catie Cline tallied the final point on a kill from the middle for the LCU victory.
The Lady Chaps return home to face St. Edward's next Thursday at 7 p.m. LCU seniors Deterding, Johnson and Lucia will be honored after the match.
