Streak Ends in Midland, as Chaps Get Four-Run Eighth To Defeat ENMU

Hunter McFall Drives in Four and Brig Gerlich Goes The Distance for LCU

MIDLAND, Texas (February 20, 2015) – Hunter McFall drove in four runs and Lubbock Christian University used a four-run eighth inning to unlock a tied contest and end a five-game losing streak with a 7-3 win over Eastern New Mexico Friday night at Security Bank Ballpark.

LCU has been error-prone this season and errors played a part in ENMU taking a 3-0 lead in the first in-ning. Justin Paul produced a pair of runs-batted-in and two LCU errors led to the Greyhound lead.

The Chaps started their comeback in the bottom of the third inning. Ethan Kohnle led off with a hit and would later score on a throwing error before McFall singled through the right side to plate a pair of runs to tie the game 3-3.

Chaps starting pitcher Brig Gerlich only allowed two hits following the first inning and he was able to get some breathing room in his complete game performance in the eighth inning, as LCU rattled off four runs. Jose Favela led off the inning with a double and scored on Wade Stramp's single for the lead. McFall followed with a two-run double and Gerardo Arzaga closed the scoring grounding out for an RBI.

Gerlich completed his fourth complete game of his LCU career, but the first going nine innings. He al-lowed three runs (two earned) off five hits and struck out seven batters. He improved to 2-1 with the win. Cody Pope suffered the loss for ENMU (2-1). He lasted 7.1 innings and allowed six runs (three earned) off six hits and struck out 10.

LCU produced seven hits and five were combined between Stramp (3-for-4) and McFall (2-for-4). McFall's four RBI matched a career high. Blake Cooper (3-for-4) produced three of the Greyhounds five hits.

The Chaps improve to 6-5 on the season and the win ends their longest losing streak since 2012. ENMU was unable to end their losing streak, which extends to four games (3-6). The two teams continue their series in Midland Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
