All-Time Series: StMU leads at 9-7
The Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals will look to avoid a sweep Saturday afternoon, as they close out a three-game Heartland Conference series at No.22 St. Mary's University with a 1 p.m. first pitch from Dickson Stadium.
The Rattlers are riding a 13-game win streak after defeating LCU 3-1 and 7-3 Friday. The pair of losses marked the first time LCU has been swept in a conference doubleheader since joining the Heartland Conference. LCU fell to 10-10 overall and are 3-3 in conference.
LCU is hitting .271 in the series with
Wade Stramp (3-for-5) and Jesse Pintado (3-for-8) each with three hits in the series. Stramp leads the team with a .377 batting average. He has a .522 on base percentage on the season. LCU looks for
Levi Westerlund to go on the mound for his sixth start of the season. Westerlund is 1-3 on the season with a 4.72 ERA. He suffered a loss last season against St. Mary's, going three innings and allowing two runs (one earned) off three hits in a 9-7 loss.
StMU, who started a lefty in each game Friday, will start another left-handed pitcher with Northwestern State transfer Cody Butler. He is 3-1 with a 3.45 ERA and coming off a 10-strikeout performance over Rogers State. Brooks Orton leads the Rattlers at the plate with a .500 (4-for-8) average in the series and is batting .432 overall on the season.
The Chaps are looking for their first road win of the season, as they are 0-6 on the road this season. StMU leads the all-time series with a 9-7 mark and they have won the prior three meetings.
