All-Time Series: LCU leads 19-8

Lubbock Christian University will attempt to avoid a three-game Heartland Conference series sweep and looks to end a five-game conference home losing streak Saturday hosting Rogers State University Saturday at 1 p.m.

It is LCU's "Strike Out Hunger" game. Fans are encouraged to bring five (per person) or 10 (per family) canned food items to receive free admission into the game. Canned food items will be donated to South Plains Food Bank.

Rogers State swept LCU in Friday's doubleheader, defeating the Chaps 10-6 and 11-2. It was RSU's first pair of wins since Feb. 21 and it also marked the first time they have scored at least 10 runs since Feb. 20. The Hillcats are hitting .446 in the series, with Blake Gipson batting .833 (5-for-6). Gipson is joined by Andrew Vanisi, who also has five hits (all for extra bases with four doubles and a home run). Vinisi and Zack Ashford each have four RBI in the series. RSU has 33 hits in the series, with eight resulting in extra bases (in comparison, LCU has eight hits overall in the series). The two wins Friday for RSU has them 14-23 overall and 5-15 in conference.

LCU fell to 20-21 overall and 7-10 in conference with the two losses, which extends their overall losing streak to three games and their home conference losing streak to five games. The Chaps will look to avoid being swept in a conference home series for the second time this season and the second time in program history. LCU, hitting .300 as a team overall this season, is batting just .197 in the series. Jose Favela, Wade Stramp and Hunter McFall are the only Chaps with more than one hit in the series for LCU. Favela and Gerardo Arzaga co-lead LCU in the series with three runs-batted-in. McFall leads the team overall on the season batting .366.

The pitching match-up features LCU's Levi Westerlund and RSU's Zach Tyson. Westerlund is 1-5 on the season with a 5.40 ERA. He did not face the Hillcats last season. Tyson has made two starts this season and is 2-1 this season with a 3.43 ERA. He pitched a scoreless inning in relief against LCU last season.

LCU leads the all-time series with a 19-8 mark. The Chaps had won seven prior regular season conference meetings prior to dropping Friday's two tilts. In the conference series, the home team has only won the series three times (out of nine series), which includes this season's series with RSU winning two games already. This season's series involves the first with RSU's first-year head coach Chris Klimas.
