LCU Hosting West Texas A&M To See Who Can Remain Hot

Both LCU and WT are 9-3 Over Their Past 12 Games

The Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals return home Tuesday to host West Texas A&M University for a nonconference clash with a 6 p.m. first pitch at Hays Field.

The Chaps are playing their second home game over an eight-game span, hosting WTAMU. LCU is 9-3 over the last 12 games, with the only losses over the span coming at home, where LCU is 9-6 on the season. The Chaps are 19-16 on the season and are riding a four-game win streak after sweeping a Heartland Conference series over Oklahoma Panhandle State.

LCU is hitting .307 as a team on the season, with Hunter McFall leading the team hitting .396. McFall is coming off a week in which he claimed Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week honors. He hit .611 (11/18) on the week with a team-leading 11 hits and 6 RBI. He had multi-RBI performances in three of the four games last week and had multi-hit performances in all four games. McFall capped the week with a 4-for-5 performance with two RBI in a 12-3 win over OPSU. He was 3-for-6 (.500) with runners in scoring position and 10-for-11 (90.9%) in success rate of advancing runners in his at-bats on the week. The junior from San Antonio, Texas leads the conference in hits (55) and total bases (75), second in RBI (35) and fifth in runs (32). The Chaps have 23 home runs in 35 games this season and the home runs have been from 10 different players (seven players have at least two on the season).

The pitching staff has a 4.92 ERA with 233 strikeouts in 287 innings. LCU opponents are batting .288 on the season.

WTAMU (22-13) is coming off a Lone Star Conference series against Texas A&M-Kingsville, which the Buffs won two of three games in Canyon, Texas. They outscored the conference leaders 21-11 in the series. Like LCU, WTAMU is 9-3 in their last 12 games. The Buffs are hitting .275 on the season. Matt Cole leads the team with a batting average of .342. Trace Hansen is their leader in home runs (3) and RBI (18) on the season. WTAMU has a staff ERA of 3.16 and their three top players in appearances have an ERA under 2.30.

LCU leads the all-time series 37-15 (dating back to 1971) and has won nine of the past 10 in the series and four-straight.  The Buffs only win during the span (2003-2013) was on Apr. 20, 2004 (9-5 win in Canyon).  LCU has won five-straight in Lubbock (LCU is 21-5 in Lubbock vs. WTAMU), with WTAMU's last win at LCU registered on Apr. 2, 2002 (3-2).  The two teams last played twice in 2013 (home-and-home series swept by LCU) after not playing previously since 2010.
