CHAPS FLIGHT DECK• The Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals remain home for the second game of a seven-game homestand Friday hosting Texas-Permian Basin for a non-conference tilt.
• The Chaps are 3-1-1 on the season and coming off a 2-2 tie at home against Eastern New Mexico Wednesday.
• LCU remains home, where they are 1-0-1 this season (3-3-1 last season at home). LCU is 4-3-2 all-time at home under
Lee Williams (2-1-2 all-time under Williams in non-conference home games) and 25-11-6 all-time overall at home.
STORY LINES• LCU enters the game following their first tie of the season. The tie placed LCU with an all-time overall record of 8-1-11 in games ending in overtime. It was the second draw under head coach
Lee Williams and the first since Oct.2, 2014 at home ironically against Eastern New Mexico.
• The Chaps have out-shot their opponents in all five games this season and are coming off a season high 35 shots against Eastern New Mexico. LCU's 35 shots was the most since firing 35 at McMurry on Oct. 26, 2013 and it matches as the third most in program history. LCU out-shot ENMU 35-14 overall and had a 13-5 edge on shots on goal. Zapata led LCU with six shots. Thirteen (13) different Chaps had a least one shot on goal.
• LCU has witnessed some solid individual performances from the opposition in their prior two games. Last Friday at Fort Hays State, Anthony Hernandez recorded the first hat trick against LCU since Erik Luzanilla completed the task for Wayland Baptist on Sept. 10, 2013. Wednesday, it was ENMU's James Gutierrez, who made 11 saves in goal for the Greyhounds. It was the most saves by a Chaps opposing goalkeeper since Tyler McIntosh of Mid-America Christian stopped 11 LCU shots on goal on Oct. 20, 2012.
• The Chaps are home for seven consecutive home games and it serves as their longest home stand in program history. Oct. 10 will not only end the homestand, but it will serve as the final home game, as they will then head to the road for their final six games of the season.
• LCU entered the week leading the Heartland Conference and ranking 10th nationally with an average of 20.00 shots a game.
Mbongeni Ndlovu and
Lennard Hansen co-lead the team and the conference with an average of 3.25 shots per game.
• The Chaparrals received goals Wednesday from
Jacob Zapata and
Tommy Fogarty-Cameron. With Fogarty-Cameron and Zapata each recording their first goal of the season, LCU has now received at least one goal from nine different players this season. They received goals from 12 different players last season.
SCOUTING UTPB• The Falcons are 2-4-0 on the season and head to Lubbock following an 8-0 win Tuesday at McMurry.
• UTPB is coming off a 2-13-1 season a year ago. They went 2-5-0 on the road last season and are 2-3-0 this season on the road.
• The Heartland Conference has UTPB selected eighth in the conference preseason polls.
• Nathan Cotterell is coming off a four-goal performance Tuesday at McMurry and has eight on the season.
• Cotterell has 36 career goals, which marks him as the second active career leader in goals in NCAA Division II.
SERIES HISTORY WITH UTPB• LCU has a 4-0-0 all-time series advantage over UTPB
• The two teams are meeting twice this season (for a third consecutive season) with the first meeting serving as a non-conference game and the second going towards their Heartland Conference standings.
• LCU is 2-0-0 against UTPB when serving as a non-conference game.
