Lady Chaps dispose of Falcons in three

LUBBOCK, Texas (September 25, 2015) – Lubbock Christian University volleyball earned their first 3-0 sweep (25-11, 25-14, 25-18) of the 2015 season at the expense of the Texas-Permian Basin Falcons inside The Rip Griffin Center Friday evening, as the Lady Chaparrals snapped a four-match losing streak while exposing UTPB's offensive struggles.

LCU (6-6, 3-2 Heartland) held the Falcons (1-9, 1-4 Heartland) to a paltry -.057 attack percentage and 22 kills amongst 28 attack errors. The Lady Chaps fared much better, collecting 38 kills on a .210 attack percentage with eight kills apiece from Ariel Froeschl, Christiana Tavo and Kacey Deterding.

A 11-0 LCU lead to begin the contest set the tone for the remainder of the night. Kelsie French delivered 11 consecutive serves as her teammates compiled the barrage of points on the way to an 18-10 advantage. Another string of points upped the gap to 23-10 before a Tavo kill and block by Emily Hanaway and Maddie Johnson locked up the set.

The Falcons took their first lead of the night at 2-1 in set two and stuck close before a 7-6 Lady Chap edge grew to 15-9. Kills by Froeschl and Deterding gave LCU an eight-point cushion before the Lady Chaps pieced together the final five points of the set to claim the win.

UTPB went up 3-1 in set three following a pair of LCU errors, but a trio of Lady Chap points put the home team up with a lead they would not relinquish. The Falcons, however, fought their way to come within 16-15, but a Deterding kill and three UTPB errors pushed the Lady Chaps out in front, 20-15. The Falcons were unable to get much closer, ultimately dropping the set for an LCU match victory.

The Lady Chaps face a quick turnaround as they host Midwestern State tomorrow at 2 p.m.
