Highlights
For the second time this season, LCU lost in five sets. They fell to St. Edward's University, which ended a four-game win streak. It was the first time, this season LCU lost a match while still recording more kills (67) than their opponent (64). The Lady Chaps are now 2-2, on the year, in matches going to five sets and are now 8-5 all time against the Hilltoppers. The loss ended a streak of eight LCU wins in the all-time series.
Mallory Powell had 51 assists and 19 digs to mark one of two doubles in the match for LCU.
How It Happened
Set One
LCU collected 16 kills in the first set while also obtaining a .300 attack percentage. The Lady Chaps won the first set with a score of 25-20. Zoller and
Emily Hanaway each had four kills in the set.
Set Two
The Lady Chaps began this set by jumping out to a 6-1 start. There was only one lead change as the Hilltoppers never led until late in this set with a kill by Katie Martin. St. Edward's went on a late 7-2 run to take the set 25-23.
Set Three
Avalon Frantz, of St. Edward's, recorded the only ace of the set. A late block by SEU's Kate Hendrix and Mikayla Parker sparked a 3-0 run and set win for the Hilltoppers. An attack error by
Emily Hanaway gave the Hilltoppers their final point to defeat the Lady Chaps 29-27. LCU had three set-point seres during the set, but was unable to obtain the point needed to clinch the set.
Set Four
The Lady Chaps edged out the Hilltoppers in this set thanks in part to five blocks and 15 kills. This set was tied up at six different points until a block by
Lauren Zoller sparked an 8-2 run, which turned an 11-9 deficit into a 19-13 LCU lead.
Kelsie French added nine digs to help LCU take the set 25-21.
Set Five
There were three lead changes in the set. The Lady Chaps tied up the score five different times throughout the set. However, the Hilltoppers went on a late 5-1 run to take the set (15-10) and match.
Christiana Tavo led all players in the set with four kills and accounted for half of LCU's eight kills in the set.
