Lady Chaps to take part in WT Invitational

CANYON, Texas (February 12, 2016) – Lubbock Christian University softball will travel to Canyon to participate in the WT Invitational hosted by West Texas A&M University this week. The Lady Chaps will face Colorado State University – Pueblo on Friday, Angelo State and Texas Woman's on Saturday followed by Fort Lewis and No. 10 Tarleton State on Sunday.

LAST WEEKEND
LCU (7-3) traveled to San Antonio this past weekend to play in the NCAA Division II College Classic hosted by St. Mary's. The Lady Chaps went 2-3 by winning games over East Central and Colorado School of Mines but falling to Texas A&M Commerce, No. 10 Tarleton and No. 12 host St. Mary's. The Palmdale duo, second baseman Sammie Murrietta and catcher Liz Torres, were both named to the All-Tournament Team. The two seniors from Palmdale, Calif., were the only Lady Chaps to be selected.
 
ABOUT COLORADO STATE – PUEBLO
This will be the first ever meeting between the two programs. The ThunderWolves (0-5) participated this past weekend in the Dixie State Tournament. CSU-Pueblo is led offensively by junior Moriah Turney who hit .538 (7-for-13) over the weekend.
 
ABOUT ANGELO STATE
The only meeting between ASU (6-0) and the Lady Chaps took place in 2013 and went in favor of the Rambelles. Angelo State participated in the George McCorkle Challenge last weekend and finished with a perfect record by taking games over Adams State, Northwestern Oklahoma State and Texas A&M-International.
 
ABOUT TEXAS WOMAN'S
The two programs have met once before with the Lady Chaps taking the 10-0 victory that February day in 2013. TWU (5-6) participated this past weekend in the SAU Softball Invitational hosted by Southern Arkansa. The Pioneers went 4-2 by winning games over Rogers State, Newman, Lincoln and Southwest Baptist. Their two losses both came on the last day to Delta State and host SAU.
 
ABOUT FORT LEWIS
LCU and Fort Lewis College (1-4) have met once previously in 2015 with the Lady Chaps the victor. The Skyhawks opened their season this past weekend at the Dixie State Tournament wining their contest against Colorado State-Pueblo, but falling to No. 2 ranked Dixie State, No. 13 ranked Humbolt State and twice to No. 22 ranked West Texas A&M.
 
ABOUT TARLETON STATE
LCU holds the 3-2 advantage in the five previous meetings with No. 10 Tarleton State (6-1) with the TexAnns taking the most recent contest in San Antonio last weekend. TSU went 4-1 in San Antonio at the College Classic winning games against St. Edward's, LCU and No. 12 St. Mary's. The only blemish for the TexAnns came from a 1-0 loss to St. Edward's.
