Lady Chaps to take part in North Texas Bash

LUBBOCK, Texas (February 18, 2016) – The Lubbock Christian University softball team travels to Grand Prairie to take part in the North Texas Softball Bash hosted by the City of Grand Prairie's Department of Parks, Arts and Recreation this weekend. The Lady Chaps' three games on Friday include matchups with Eastern New Mexico, Texas-Permian Basin and Bethany College (Kansas). LCU then plays two games on Saturday against Clarke University and Oklahoma Panhandle State before wrapping up play with a single game on Sunday versus University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff.

LAST WEEKEND
LCU (10-5) traveled to Canyon to play in the WT Invitational hosted by West Texas A&M last weekend. The Lady Chaps went 3-2 by winning games over Colorado State – Pueblo, Angelo State and Fort Lewis, but fell to Texas Woman's and No. 10 Tarleton State. Pitcher Katera Eltsosie was chosen as the Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season for her work in the tournament. The redshirt junior went 2-1 over the weekend by throwing 18 innings while only allowing two earned runs with a .78 ERA. Morgan Colburn led LCU by hitting .467 with a home run, two doubles while amassing a .867 slugging percentage. Colburn went a perfect 5-for-5 in the opening game of the tournament.

ABOUT EASTERN NEW MEXICO
The Lady Chaps have faced-off against the Greyhounds on 15 previous occasions and lead the series 15-0. ENMU has a familiar face as their new head coach as Katie Welborn, who served as the assistant coach for the Lady Chaps the previous two seasons, took over at the helm for the Greyhound softball program. Welborn has her squad off to a 5-4 start, beating No. 12 St. Mary's at the WT Invitational.

ABOUT TEXAS - PERMIAN BASIN
Fellow Heartland Conference foe UTPB and LCU have played each other on 10 previous occasions with LCU victorious in each contest. The Falcons have bolstered their roster adding 12 new players for the 2016 season.

ABOUT BETHANY COLLEGE (KANSAS)
The Lindsborg, Kan., NAIA school has faced the Lady Chaps one other time with LCU holding the 1-0 advantage. The Swedes added six new signees to their roster for the 2016 season. BC played their first two games on the season last weekend in a double-header at No. 11 (NAIA) St. Gregory's and dropped both games.

ABOUT CLARKE UNIVERSITY
The Crusaders, an NAIA program from Dubuque, Iowa, are playing their first games of the 2016 season in the Metroplex this weekend. Clarke plays a doubleheader against Texas Wesleyan on Thursday before entering play in the North Texas Bash on Friday. The Crusaders are coming off a record-setting year by finishing second in the Midwest Collegiate Conference with a 31-21 record in 2015.

ABOUT OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE
The Aggies of OPSU, another Heartland Conference opponent, have faced the Lady Chaps three times previously with LCU winning each of those games. The Aggies participated in the Lady Chap Invitational to open their season and went 1-4 before following up with four straight wins. OPSU fell to Eastern New Mexico in both games of a doubleheader to finish the tournament.

ABOUT ARKANSAS – PINE BLUFF
LCU will face the Golden Lions of UAPB for the their first ever meeting this weekend. The Golden Lions are off to a hot by entering the tournament with a 4-1 record.
