Box Score 2 ODESSA, Texas (March 8, 2016) –
Molly Davison hit a grand slam in game one to lead the Lady Chaps to a 5-2 victory over the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and then went two-for-four in game two as Lubbock Christian University was victorious 5-4 for the double-header sweep of the Falcons at UTPB Softball Field on Tuesday in Odessa.
GRAND APPROACH
LCU (24-7, 6-2 Heartland) fell behind early in game one when Melissa Zuniga scored from second base off the bat of Alyssa Lene to put the Falcons (2-20, 0-8 Heartland) up 1-0 after the first inning of play. The Lady Chaps quickly got the run back in the top half of the following inning when
Liz Torres homered over the center field fence. In the third inning with two outs and the bases loaded, Davison sent the ball out of the park for a grand slam putting LCU on top 5-1. UTPB managed just one more run in the bottom of the seventh when Zuniga singled to center field to drive in Miley McKee.
IN THE CIRCLE
Katera Eltsosie (13-3) got the start for LCU in game one and pitched the complete game for her 13
th victory of the season. The righty out of Albuquerque, N.M., only gave up two runs on nine hits while striking out seven Falcon batters. Kim Alonzo (0-5) started in the circle for UTPB and suffered the loss by going two and two-third innings and surrendering all five of the Lady Chaps' runs and all four of their hits before Randi May came in and held LCU hitless through the remaining four and-a-third innings.
TIGHT BATTLE
In game two the Lady Chaps jumped out to a 3-1 lead with two runs in the first when Davison doubled to drive in
Lindzi Clemmer from second base and
Liz Torres hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score
Morgan Colburn. In the top of the second inning Clemmer hit a sacrifice fly to right field that plated
Addison Ard. The Falcons would get one back in the second inning and two more in the fifth. LCU also scored two runs in the fifth inning when
Addison Ard hit a ball up the middle to score
Jenny Rigney and Colburn. Once again UTPB managed a run in the bottom of the seventh to make it a one run game.
TEAMWORK
In the circle in game two, the Lady Chaps used the combination of
Katlyn Holmes (9-2) and Eltsosie. Holmes got the start and went six innings, giving up four runs on six hits. Eltsosie came in to the game with a runner on and no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to shut the Falcons down and notch her second save of the year. Chelsae Faries (0-5) and RustieAnne Spinks also teamed up for UTPB in the loss. Faries pitched four and two-third innings allowing all five LCU runs on 10 hits while striking out two Lady Chaps. Spinks threw the last two and one-third innings giving up only one hit.

The Lady Chaps return home to PlainsCapital Park this Saturday, March 12
