Lady Chaps snake bitten

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN ANTONIO, Texas (April 1, 2016) – Lady Chaps played 20 innings of softball falling 4-3 in 13 innings in game one and 2-1 in game two to St. Mary's Friday at the Softball Stadium in The Park at St. Mary's.

HISTORICAL
Game one was the longest game in Lady Chap (33-9) history. The longest game for LCU prior to today was in the NAIA National Tournament in 2008 when the Lady Chaps played an 11-inning game. Today in San Antonio, LCU got on the scoreboard first when Sammie Murrietta singled to left to drive in pinch runner Baylee Goolsby. The Lady Chaps tacked on another run in the third when Ashton Bell came home on a wild pitch. St Mary's (31-7) plated two runs in the fifth inning to tie the game up 2-2. LCU took the lead in the ninth inning when Sydney Beuthien doubled to score Katlin Reed. The Rattlers scored one in the bottom of the ninth to keep the game alive. In the bottom of the 13th inning Kristal Salinas singled to score Raynelle Nash for the victory.

IN THE CIRCLE
Katera Eltsosie (17-4) got the start for LCU and pitched the entire game surrendering only two earned runs off 13 hits striking out 10 St. Mary's batters. Jorden Russell (12-3) started for StMU and also pitched the entire 13 innings allowing three runs on eight hits.

PITCHERS' DUEL
No one scored in game two when Lady Chap Murrietta led off the inning with a double before Lindzi Clemmer doubled to drive in Murrietta. In the bottom of the seventh Alessandra Ortiz singled to right field to drive in Jourdan Alvarez and Olivia Van Hook for the game two win.

IN THE CIRCLE
Game two starter for LCU was Katlyn Holmes (14-3) who pitched the complete game suffering only her third loss of the season. Holmes gave up only two runs off six hits striking out six. For the Rattlers Kristi Rangel who  threw the first six innings allowing the one run off five hits before Ashley Mills (9-0) came in to pitch the seventh and earn her ninth win of the year.
